They can be either light or one-handed weapons. That's important for many TWF styles, ferinstance if you're using longsword and shortsword.fafhrd said:Without quickdraw, if you have a +1 BAB or greater, and you spend a move action on moving then you can draw a weapon during that move. I think the Minatures Handbook came up with some sort of action that's like a Free Action, but can be done even when it's not your turn

Thus, you could cut down an enemy, drop your weapon as a free action, quickdraw a bow, take your remaining attacks, then drop it and quickdraw another melee weapon in case you need it for an AoO or something.
