Quick Immortal's Handbook Question for UK...

Anubis

First Post
I'm trying to build my universe, and although I know we can't get any big info yet, I was hoping you could give just this one little tidbit.

I'm trying to figure out how the gods interact on a galactic scale, so . . . In the standard rules you've set forth, approximately how many worshippers does each level of deity (from the bottom to the top) need? I need this much so that I can figure out how much "area" each deity "controls", so to speak.

Hi ANubis mate! :)

Y'know would be better off posting this in the main thread, since I almost didn't catch it. Also I don't like taking liberties with the number of posts on the subject. However, since we are already here... :p

Well they don't necessarily need any, gaining power from worshippers is only one option. You can also gain power by killing powerful outsiders and other gods.

Hence the power (quintessence*) and the glory (worship)

*Think Quickening in Highlander.

However if a deity was powered purely by worship then they would need to have 100 devoted worshippers to reach Hero-deity status and cumulatively ten times that figure for each status up to Greater Power where they would need 10 million.

Well I hope the above helps. There are also different kinds of worshippers but I think the devoted brethren are more or less what you are after.

Devoted = "devoted", it's not a measure of character level! :) It covers people who are strong adherents of a particular faith and could be described as "pious", "devout", etc, shading into "fanatical".

Hey S'mon! :)

Thanks for helping out, although Anubis and I had a Q&A session on MSN Messenger earlier. ;)

hi,

Long time, no speak. :)

I had a question U_K - What happens when a very devout Cleric of Pelor (using default D&D) gets raised to godhood (whether through worship or power stealing)? Wouldthatcleric still worship Pelor? Would Pelor be mad?

Thanks for your time dude. :D

Indeed, hope you have been keeping well?

The cleric class is least likely to rise to godhood through worship although the most likely to be granted a measure of divine power.

The cleric wouldn't necessarily worship Pelor any longer (they don't need Pelor to grant them spells any longer), though they would still answer to Pelor, their sponsor and (probably) patron as well.

Pelor wouldn't be mad because he would have gained a new, or rather, more powerful, instrument against the forces of evil.
