Quick Question on Fighter Build

1) Post-errata, I think all the fighter builds are about equal now. I switched to Guardian after the errata. I'd rather hit more often than do more damage.

2) I went with High Str, med-high Wis, and med-high Con. Then again, I am running a dwarf. Higher Dex is a fair choice depending on the build you have planned for later down the line.

You might also consider picking up a background for one of those two skills and a multiclass feat for the other, if you're unimpressed with the fighter skill list.

A background? What do you mean? Is that some option from new books that gives skill training or lets you trade out class skills? I intend on writing up a background for my guy, but my DM's not going to give me skill training because of it.

Edit: Ok, found this in PH2 once I got home. Hadn't read through that carefully yet.

Dungeoneering would seem like a must for a "tomb raider" type.

I agree. I just can't get everything at once. I'll probably pick that pretty early on as I level up though.

Are you thinking of something in particular?
If you go with light or heavy blades, or flail or spear, a high dexterity is generally useful. It can also be useful later on if you want to pick Shield Specialization (Paragon Tier) or the feat to improve your weapons critical range (epic tier).
The PHB Fighter class description has the suggested secondary ability scores by weapon.

Considering your skill choices, I think a good dexterity is a good idea. You could consider picking up light blades if you want to take the Rogue multiclass feat for Thievery and Sneak Attack (since you can't sneak attack with the heavy blade or axe)
Of course, there are alternatives to that - for example, Quick Draw + Shortsword can give you that once per encounter sneak attack. (Another player of mine uses this trick with a Greatweapon fighter using a polearm)

Will the campaign start from 1st level? And how long will it likely to continue? Or rather, how far (in levels) will it likely to go?

Sub-ability scores (say, Dex for Blades and Flails, Con for Hammers and Maces, Wis for Polearms) do not matter much while you are playing Heroic Tier, especially a Heroic Tier Fighter.

There are several feats and powers you can be benefited from those stats. But IMHO a point higher Str bonus is always useful.

Thus, if making a human fighter, I will put 18 (then +2 from human racial stats bonus) to Str.

Read feats and fighter powers in PHB and other supplements (mainly Martial Power and PHB 2). Then decide if you really need certain amount of Dex and Wis.

Starting from 1st level and running through all the published WotC mods - so I do have to think about the long term implications.

Thanks! Light blade does make sense with the concept and skill selection, but I feel like if I go light blade I ought to do tempest or else risk having irrelevant marks. Then, if I go tempest, I worry about having too weak armor for the low Con I picked and winding up being too easy a target... Thoughts?
