R1: Hired Hands (nimisgod judging)

Gideon nods a Kerrz's correction. After everyone beds down for the evening, Gideon takes note of the skin on the back of his left hand. It appears to have a tracery of fine red scales, but when he looks again they are gone.

Gotta make sure to get a pair of gloves in the next town. He thinks.

Tor glances over his shoulder at Gideon.

"Going through some changes, brother? Don't let it worry you. You are not alone in having unusual blood."

The copper dragon Tatoo on Tor's back almost seems to wink at Gideon as Tor speaks.

The night goes by quietly, at least until just before dawn. Kerrz, stoicly waiting out the 4th watch, hears something off to the southeast, on the other side of the road. Turning his full attention in that direction, he can just make out some large shadowy forms making their way toward the camp.

[sblock]ooc: Kerrz' listen check and spot check.[/sblock]

Kerrz makes no motion to stand, but shouts out a loud, "GOOD MORNING STRANGERS!!" to make the oncoming figures aware that he is watching them, and to make sure his companions understand that there are strange figures arriving in the wee hours of the morning.

ooc: I take it we are surprised due to being asleep? If Tor has the chance to even pick up his weapon before the monsters aproach, combat reflexes will allow him to strike at any that move through his threatened area. His spiked chain provides 10' reach.

As soon as Kerrz utters a sound, he sees three tall forms stand upright and head straight toward him. The intruders can be heard clearly now, speaking in a harsh, barking language.

ooc: Yes, Tor and the others are considered surprised since they are sleeping. Kerrz, I wasn't sure if you wanted to do the rolling yourself or not, some people do. I'll be happy to do the rolling for you if you don't mind.

Initiative
Kerrz: 16
gnoll #3: 11
gnoll #2: 10
gnoll #1: 8

You get first action, Kerrz. The gnolls are actually on the road, approximately 30 feet away.

Troubled dreams of wings and fire keep Gideon tossing in his sleep. When Kerrz shouts, Gideon awakes with a start, pausing as his sleep-addled brain tries to focus on the pre-dawn scene. After a moment of inaction (the surprise round), Gideon will scramble for his crossbow.

OOC: Dungannon, I generally prefer to have the DM do my rolling for me on PbP, so feel free.
