I made a poll earlier that quite clearly indicates that the Half-elf and Tiefling aren't very likable mechanically. http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=229313
I have noticed that the strength based classes (Fighter, Warlord, melee Ranger) only have Dragonborn and Human as choices if you want a +2 racial bonus to your primary stat.
I am thinking of changing the stat bonuses for the Tiefling and Half-elf:
Half-elf: +2cha, +2con/str
Tiefling: +2int +2cha/con
In other words, they can choose if they get one stat bonus, and can choose between two for the other one.
This might make the Dragonborn and Human to feel less unique stat-wise, but they are the two most liked races mechanically before the change*.
Some more background for the proposed changes:
If you want to play a ..... look at ..... race (has a bonus to the classes primary stat):
Cleric (wis or str) Dragonborn, Dwarf, Elf
Fighter (str) Dragonborn (proposed change: Half-elf, Tiefling)
Paladin (str or cha) Dragonborn, Half-elf, Halfling, Tiefling
Ranger (str or dex) Dragonborn, Eladrin, Elf, Halfling, (proposed change: Half-elf, Tiefling)
Rogue (dex) Eladrin, Elf, Halfling
Warlock (cha or con) Half-elf, Tiefling, Dwarf, halfling
Warlord (str) Dragonborn, (proposed change: Half-elf, Tiefling)
Wizard (int) Tiefling, Eladrin
From the numbers above I can say how many classes each race is suitable for
Dragonborn 5
Dwarf 2
Eladrin 3
Elf 2
Half-Elf 2 (5 with my proposed change)
Halfling 4
Human 8
Tiefling 2 (5 with my proposed change)
The dwarf and the elf aren't looking too good here, but according to the poll they have probably got synergies with their racial abilities that gives them edges in other areas.
*according to the poll referenced earlier.
