Half-orc, it clearly was a case of fitting the stats they wanted in the book with the races they wanted in the book and nothing to do with what makes sense.

I'm sorry to see the dislike for Kenku - I think that they are one of the cooler monster races. Ah well, I liked Drow as well, likely because I somehow hadn't even heard of Drist until about a year ago.

I love the kibitzing in these threads. I voted drow last time because drow fans piss me off.

This time I voted for Duergar. Dwarves who shoot poisonous quills out of their heads? Wth is that?

I think the kernel of the idea came from the durzagon, a late 3.5e monster which was basically a duergar crossed with a bearded devil. The bearded devil part of their ancestry gave them a spiky beard. In 4e, it seems that all duergar have bearded devil ancestry, and the spikes can appear in hair as well as beards.

I would almost like a way to note whether folks are voting based on flavor or mechanics... razor claws and halflings is that mechanics?

I'd love kenku in the right setting (not necessarily Asian-inspired), but in standard D&D they still seem like more of a monster race.

Now, in something like the Diamond Throne setting of Arcana Unearthed/Evolved, which embraces "beast" races, they'd fit perfectly.

As for duergar's quills, I always envisioned them as interspersed in their regular hair, perhaps even purposely crafted by twisting their regular hair in a poisonous resin.

Well, I can't even approach voting based on flavor yet. As long as there are races on the list that aren't really player races (i.e., they don't appear in the PHBs or Setting Players Guides) I can't really justify voting out of any other criteria.

Down with Monster races!
