I guess its that I don't distinguish that strongly between "monster" and "non-monster" races - in my campaign, goblinoids are basically that world's native americans (displaced by the invading "civilized" races, and generally persecuted and mistreated and gnerally onery as a result), and kobolds are one of the civilised races (they are basically to dragonborn as halflings are to humans).

Now, I may have issues with particular monster races (head quills and bugbear big weapons), but not for them being "monster races".

Besides, if one has a problem with monsters, I would think you would want to vote Gnolls off the island - they are one of the most "monstrous" on the list.

I *liked* the flavor of 3.5 Duergareraer (whatever), and Swernblerfine (also whatever) but I don't like the porcupine dwarves that have replaced my psionically enlarging dark dwarves one bit.

Kenku are hilarious. Not sure if that's a good thing, but I'm not voting them off just yet anyhow.

I think monster races are a good thing (and minor mechanics stuff like a bugbear's oversized racial trait bothers me less that flavor issues). On the other hand, I hate the "yet another race" syndrome - so, for instance, I don't see the need for razorclaws and bugbears and gnolls - and the bugbears and in the boring midpoint here. It's kinda dubious to me whether shifter's and gnolls really differ enough, but bugbears really don't add anything worthwhile ;-).

I dont mind monster races because I can skin them either as a whole to fit my world or as needed by and for the player... I use races as archetypes.. so being something I can make my own is more important than its current flavor.

Human - The Survivor Archetype (Build with Longtooth Shifter).
There is a saying when the going gets tough ... the tough get going. Survivors get sick like everyone else... they just plain get better afterwards. The ability to draw on seeming unending energy in a fight specifically when others start to lag is when they seem at their mightiest and is the primary feature of human's with the survivor archetype. This may be as much vivaciousness and a sort of perceptive and intuitive understanding of the humanities connection to the divine as anything else rather than them being healthy and some even say its like their luck builds faster the worse the problems get. No they dont see in the dark but guessing where danger is and feeling out what is where with gut instinct, now that they can do (mechanically low light vision). The survivor's ability to deal with danger in very physical ways tends to influence them towards athletic and persistent physical activity. Some survivors turn strongly towards divine classes... but most are true fighters.

Man, all the races lost so far as so much more interesting than the core. I'm tempted to run a campaign where duergar, kenku, bullywugs, and such are the only races.

Hmm, I have the feeling that dwarves, elves and humans are going to win this if the class poll is anything to go by.

Fine whatever, just promise me that halflings won't be amongst them! Small and crap.

i wouldn't be surprised to see the genasi win along with humans they are incredibly varied to player tastes. and have a unique and useful stat allocation and interesting racial feats to boot.
