Races known to be slavers?

I think we should differentiate between slave taking races and slave trading races.

Mind flayers and formians take slaves, but probably don't sell them (or buy them; they just take 'em); they are a resource not a commodity. Duergar and drow definitely buy and sell slaves.

Luke,

Yeah but the OP wants to know about slavers. Slave taking and slave trading, are just to variants of the same practice, IE keeping and procuring slaves.

Smootk,

Eh let's be honest, people are sick of drow. :p :)

Right, I didn't mean to say that some of the races mentioned aren't applicable to this discussion, I just wanted to point out that different monsters do things differently, and there seems to be two main categories. If your Dear Aunt Mildred gets taken by duergar, you probably have a possibility of buying her back. If the illithid get her, though, showing up with a pile of cash won't help. But at least the illithids won't have sold her to the aboleth who then traded her with the formians for some other slaves...

Luke,

True but there have been instances (rare I know) of an Illithid trading to an Aboleth IF the two sides have something the other wants (IE willing trade milly to the Aboleth IF said aboleth has a large collection of rare spell books BUT needs some defenders.)

Just saying it does happen.

Mind flayers are also a staple race that takes slaves. In fact, they're the only ones who'll conduct (slave) trade with the neogi (and likely the tso as well).

for more fun you can bring former slaves into the picture. githyanki and githzerai

Well the Githzerai, to my knowledge, don't practice slavery. The Githyanki might but only if they truly desire something. As it stands neither finds the practice of slavery that palatable.
