Races Series Collection??

Not to sound like one of those trite prophets again, but it WotC is going to release some of their series in compilations like this (maybe a race supplement collection, maybe an environment supplement collection, maybe a 'complete'/class supplement collection), it might be their wrapping-up of 3.5E. I mean, if they have a race collection like this, they probably won't release a new Races of X book after that.

From Amazon:

This slip-covered gift set contains three supplements that expand the core race options for the D&D roleplaying game: Races of Stone™, Races of Destiny™, and Races of the Wild™. Choosing a race is one of the most fundamental steps in creating a character, and for the first time the supplements that focus on this important area have been collected in one set.

So, that's about 30 bucks per book. RoEberron isn't included.

That means you are just getting 3 books for the price of 3 books, isn't it?

I have never understood what was the point of the 3.5 core rulebooks boxed set, and in fact I understand this box even less. :\

Hmm, none of the Races of... books looked worth buying to me. If the box was substantially discounted I might change my tune, but as is- I think not.

Wrap it up, I'll take it with me

Nah, not any more than the core rules gift set was a wrap up of 3.5. I agree that it is probably the wrapping up of the "Races of..."-series, but that's just seems natural to me, as they have covered the core races, and there's no pressing need to do another book.

Cheers!

You mean, like Races of Eberron? ;)

The box protects the books a bit from tear and wear, since it's the box who takes the brunt of the damage during travels.

I think that the "gift" part is they key. It's not really aimed at those of us who buy the core books seperately because we know what to get, it's aimed at the parents, or relatives, who wants to buy a gift, and is intimidated by the fact that there are millions of books available.

The core book gift set neatly presents the three core books as one "unit", thereby just requiring one decision to buy, not three. The price is a bit steep, though, and I think it would be awesome if they did a discount, but that could also end up with outraged gamers who bought the core rules seperately, and feel ripped off.

But presumably this stratey worked for the core rules, as we are seeing another gift set.

Cheers!

If you don't have them, this is an easy way to get all of them and in a nice format (the slipcover). I doubt they expect to sell as many as the initial run.

I'm actually considering this, since I didn't pick up any of those books.

I don't think of Races of Eberron as one of the Races of Destiny - Races of Stone - Races of the Wild series, because it's campaign specific. Same format and everything, but I don't really play Eberron that much, so I tend to use the other three far more.

But in both cases the high price is quite the key, and the reason why I don't understand.

Why does a parent spend 90$ on a present if they are undecided? Why should I spend 90$ at once if I can instead buy the books one by one and see if I like them?

Heh no problem anyway, if you people like this format, I'm not against it :p I'm just saying that it attracts me less than the separate books.

Yeah, that's one thing which I find difficult to grasp as well. Dropping 90 dollars on three books, seems like a lot of money, instead of buying, eg, the D&D Basic Set, or WFRPv2 in one book, or Exalted in one book.

I guess it's down to the strength of the brand name, and the power of birthday wishes.
:D

Cheers!
