It's been awhile since I've read it, but I thought it was in the second book. A group of the evil magic-using women (don't remember the name) was screwing some demonic creature in order to gain more power or something. It was rather disturbing and not in a good way.
It's definitely the second book as that scene is forever burned into my poor, innocent mind.
As for whether the series is worth reading, the first book is okay in a stock fantasy kind of way. It doesn't do much new and it doesn't do much good (it also doesn't do much bad either). After the first book, it rapidly devolves into a "rip off Robert Jordan/Make stuff up and retconn it into the world" schtick.
Goodkind also tries to inject some of his personal "politics" into the story later on, but I quit at about that time because the story was becoming monumentally bad. Plus, it's not really an appropriate topic for this forum.
Overall, I'd say skip it and read something else better, unless you happen to enjoy barbed-demon phalluses, chickens-that-are-not-chickens-but-evil-made-manifest, or S&M stuff.
RE: the TV Series...
It has a chance of being good, if they deviate from the books enough, IMO.
It might be funny in a trainwreck kind of way too, so either way, win-win!
