RANDOM ADVENTURE IDEAS-- Help us pick a winner!

Based on the title and description, which adventure are you most likely to buy?

You're forcing me to give my opinion here...

I believe that THE LOST RUINS OF DREAD not only has the best "hook" of the entries, it also does the best job of capturing that "old school feel." It is perhaps the most perfectly 1e entry in its genius inspecificity of threat and promise of adventure and loot.

How you like them apples?
I have to agree here mostly. The Lost Ruins of Dread gets a honourable mention from me; I voted for the Feast of the Ebon City -- but was that because it was the first entry in the contest and therefore stuck in my mind the most?

Either way, they would probably BOTH be in my list of dungeons to closely examine.

Here is my final judgement:

THE LOST CITY OF THE WHORE QUEEN (Glassjaw) 15
> First things first. GlassJaw's entry is ineligible for victory because it wasn't truly random. And it's got a whore in it; unfair advantage. And also, I am pretty sure GlassJaw already has all the free swag from me he could possibly need, and certainly more than he probably wants.

THE CLOCKWORK TOWER OF CHAOS (Morpheus)* 15
> Tough call, but I have to DQ Morpheus as well. Rules are rules, and that little asterix by his name is because he didn't get his first entry in, and had to ask for a "Do Over." Would he have done as well with his original entry, "THE DRAGON KING'S DEATH?" We'll never know. Still, this strong showing should encourage him to enter again.

THE IRON TOWER OF THE SERPENT KING (Wystan) 14
THE ICE MINES OF THE WITCH KING (Asmor) 14

And so, these are the two grand-prize winners! "Grand Prize" means "Willing to actually drive to the post office to mail an actual book." So I'll be happy to send you two big winners anything you like from my in-stock print catalog, one hardcover or, say, 2-3 softcover books.

SHADOWS OF THE DIVINE CITADEL (Whizbang Dustyboots) 12
SIEGE ON THE SUNLESS PALACE (Rodrigo) 12
FEAST OF THE EBON CITY (Flynn) 9
THE TREASURE OF THE FROG SORCERER (Kaodi) 6
THE LOST RUINS OF DREAD (blargney) 5

And all of these guys (including Morpheus) will get a PDF of their choice just for entertaining us all. (I recommend Mythic Heroes, but anything goes.)

Claiming your prize requires you to email me, so I know what email address to send the complimentary copies to, and I will need your street address if you're a Grand Prize Winner.

So now that that is out of the way, when shall we play again and what would you change next time around?

I think, for the next round, let the words be random but the order be up to the contestant.

Although, now that I re-read them, in most cases it probably won't make a difference. Maybe more words, use at least x of them, any order?

Wow! I've got to say, that's way more than I expected! Very generous of you Wulf! Drop me a line at itoltz@gmail.com.

For what it's worth, I'm sorry for Glassjaw and Morpheus being DQed. It makes for a hollow victory, and they both did really well.

Anyways, my suggestion for the next one is to give people, say, 5 random dungeon titles, and they need to choose one.

Or, alternatively, make it into a single- or double-elimination competition... Pair people off, give each pair the same title, and have them email you their description... Then post both descriptions simultaneously for voting.

I'd say that, next time around, everyone get three random titles (at three different times) and have to write for all of them. Everyone would have a better chance at a good title, since it seems like several of the voters were swayed by title alone, and didn't seem to get the idea of the contest.

I think this was a great contest. Honestly, I could see Goodman Games publishing several of these ideas, although I won't flatter myself as being as capable of they are of taking a solid concept and turning it into a better adventure.

I look forward to the next go-round!

People are too lazy to read 100 words. How about limiting the blurb to 1 word? :)

Or, a competition to come up with the best module title that doesn't use the word 'whore'.

I am also looking forward to the next contest. It's a good way to stretch the imagination, I think.

With Regards,
Flynn

"Were-Hamsters Of Raging Evil"

Of course, that title doesn't really roll off the tongue easily, so I just call it W.H.O.R.E. for short.

Nothing with "whore" in the title. It's too distracting apparently. ;)

Nah, it's all good. I was going to offer up any winnings anyway. I'm just glad some people liked my idea regardless of the title.

Likewise. Plus I have the little problem of a "real" job that kills any possibility of actually having time to write something like this.

Yeah, it was fun. Great source of adventure ideas too. Every entry was a great hook.

Another cool idea would be to make the title like Mad Libs and let each writer fill-in the title as they want.

For example:

The (adjective) Tomb of the (adjective) (noun).
