For all of those who have Ptolus, there is a 25% off coupon on the Cd that comes packaged with it that can be used for all Sword & Sorcery, Malhavoc and NEcromancer Games items on DTRPG.com. It's valid until Sept 30th.
Sept 30th 2007 :)...

Clark: To me, the only "issue" is the disconnect about how a lower-priced PDF somehow undermine the value of the print product. I really doubt (and I've yet to hear anyone say differently) that anybody who bought the print product would get mad, in fact, in some cases they are the one who are saddened by the "high" price!

I have little to no experience dealing with distributors/retailers, but I don't really think they'd get mad either. I just don't see the PDF competing with the print product. And by all accounts, the Print edition will sell out, so it's not as if distributors/retailers will be stuck with some on hand, and that's basically what makes them mad, no?

Otherwise, I find it silly for people to get mad, especially the whole "I'll never buy NG again!" You (and by this I mean the company) own the product, and obviously are free to set any price you want. Customers are free to buy or not buy, and obviously price plays a part in that decision. But I don't see what the price of the Rappan Athuk Reloaded PDF has to do with other NG products. So no matter what, my own buying decisions will continue the same.

Indeed!

Thanks for the info! I've been looking through Ptolus, but I had not gotten to the CD yet.

But I do have a belief about being true to our fans particularly as it relates to this product. Particularly long time Necro people. You know we listen.

I'm a long time diehard necro fan. Been on the ng boards since 2000, over 1000 posts there. I owns over 25 NG products. Been talking about necro to my friends, they themselves bought 10 products I do not personally own. I believe I qualify as a long time, loyal NG fan and customers. You guys are awesome really and your products are just so freaking great.

Unfortunately, I've been unable to pre-order RARE. When I wanted (and could afford) to do it, late july, pre-order has stopped the day before :( I was very disapointed. Fortunately for me, another fellow ng board member living 150 km away from me was going to GenCon and offered to pick up a copy of RARE for me :D

I wanted to pre-order, even with the prohibitive and overpriced shipping fee policy White-Wolf has for Canadian orders (flat $25!) to get the free PDF freebies pre-orderers had. Now that I have my copy picked up at GenCon (it may even be signed by Bill and Co., i don't have it yet), I'd have to pay over $50US for a PDF. No way.

I'd not feel my copy of RARE would be devaluated AT ALL if more people could buy the PDF. The print thing is the real gem! The PDF isn't!. Owning a PDF has nothing with the real thing and this special added value is x100 for a deluxe product like RARE IMHO. I own the pdf of the Players Guide to the Wilderlands and I'd rather own the print version!!! A PDF has no collector value IMHO.

As a side note, I also owns the Wilderlands of High Fantasy boxed set. awesome product. Truly a gem. Even after owning it for a year, I'm reading (and re-reading) bits of it several days per weeks. I'd like to have the PDF also to be able to use the search function. (it's not easy to find back something you vagely remember in those 2 books and 3000 hexes!) Been thinking buying the PDF but again the $50 price tag is way too high. I understand that for WoHF you can't drop the price now. There's a lot of box set still sitting on the shelves. But RARE will be sold out (on the shelves) in a very near future. Ok, I don't have the numbers, but I'd guesstimate if the pre-orders had to be stopped just to be able to stock Alliance, there's probably not that many that were left. In a very near future, RARE will be very rare :)

I'm not mad, just sad. I think your arguments for pricing the PDF that high are not valids but who am I to say this. This is only my point of view on the situation. I don't run NG and you've proven in the past that you knew how to run a successful d20 company.

I only buy pdfs for myself now and held off getting the 3e RAs because I knew RAR was coming out. Even at the reduced price of $49.99 http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=12529&affiliate_id=17596 I don't think I will be getting this over the 3 3.0 ones.

$5 for RAI http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=763&affiliate_id=17596 $6 for RA 2 http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=795&affiliate_id=17596 and $8 for RA 3 http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=764&affiliate_id=17596

So it is $19 for the complete 3e version or $50 for the 3.5 version with a few expanded bits including having it cover from level 1 to 20 instead of starting around 3 or so as I hear. $31 difference to go from 3e to 3.5 and get the extras. Just not worth more than doubling the cost.

If I get it it will be the 3.0 version, too bad as I run 3.5.

I buy a lot of pdfs but I have lots of options for my rpg budget and more stuff that I want to get than my budget can afford. I am more likely to get good deal price wise stuff. For instance I snatched up the ToHR, the FFG $5 legends and lairs books, and a bunch of old edition stuff from Paizo.

I do not think my spending patterns are typcial as I only buy pdfs but I do get pdfs every month and look for the best deals from among the things that I want. There is my consumer data for your consideration.

You may want to consider the map packs. They are VASTLY improved. Again, it is still too pricey IMO, but the maps may be justifiable to map junkies.

I own print copies of the orignal RA series. I flipped through a copy of Reloaded at GC, and passed on buying a copy friday afternoon, even though there were several sitting on the shelf in front of me. Too pricey. I thought, perhaps I would buy the PDF, because it is a pretty neat product. It is a wonderfully executed dungeon crawl. I like dungeon crawls. A lot. Hell, I even have a duplexing high speed laser printer right next to my desk at work to print it on. (And someone else pays for the paper and toner, even!) But in the end, $49.99 is too steep for what it is, for me. It is, afterall, a Dungeon Crawl. Given my collection of other Necro products, Goodman DCCs, and about 25 years of hand-drawn and populated dungeons, I just don't need a $50 dungeon crawl.

Sorry, Clark. I understand you've thought this through and am quite sure you are making the right decision for your target customers. I respect your decision, but I'll be sitting this one out.

You haven't seen the cost for the A Game Of Thrones DLE, have you? ;)
Uh wow. That's just f****** assinine. If for nothing else DTRPG doesn't get my business just because of the prices of the pdfs. If they were priced decently, like even $30 for GoT for instance, I would consider it. But $99 for an e-book is just plain stupid.

Amen. While I find the pricing of the pdf to be outrageous, I'm not angry at the NG folks at all. It's just too pricey for me. I'm just not the target demographic on this one is all. No harm no foul in that regard.
