I enjoyed it immensely. I just love Daleks, and the way they used this one single Dalek as such a threat was fantastic. The only think I didn't like was the DNA-absorbing-healing-changing-nature ability; if Daleks all had that ability, they'd all be nice cuddly friendly things in a few years.

You're always complaining, you are. It was great. Did you notice that it was Nick Briggs who did the Dalek's voice?

I thought it was a strong episode... they could have done so much more with it though... maybe a 2 parter. Remember the 'I Borg' episode of STTNG?

The Dalek seemed much tougher than the ones we're used to seeing. If one dalek is that indestructible, then think how bad it would be if they attacked en-masse!

Nice placement of the Cyberman head. I wonder if they have any plans to use them in future episodes.

More detail on the 'Last Great Time War', as well. The Doctor said that he could feel that there were no more time-lords. Does that mean we definitely won't be seeing the Master?

That was the best episode so far- and it's frankly going down as one of my favorite episodes of all the years of Dr. Who episodes I've seen. Eccleston's performance was absolutely the best I've seen him- so much emotion in his relating the events of the Time War. That first scene with the Doctor and the Dalek meeting was chilling and awesome- just watching the two of them talking; the fact that Eccleston can generate such a powerful scene with a non-expressive robot (let's face it, when he gave it, he was literally talking to himself) shows a range that I'd only seen him hint at before (and thank god he's toned the mugging down).

Speaking of non-expressive robots- that was the best Dalek performance I've ever seen, either. Nicholas Briggs was able to give this Dalek a range of emotions and personality that we rarely see in them. Ddvmor mentioned how physically powerful this lone gold Dalek was; to me, what was far more menacing was his personality. When he was sniffling and bemoaning his fate to Rose, I kept thinking- don't fall for it, Rose! This guy's totally yanking your chain and playing psychological games in a way his kind have never done before! Usually the Daleks just rely on force; this one used its brains and demonstrated its true deadliness.

The ending was a little cheesy- the whole absorbing Rose's DNA causing it to mutate thing- for the reasons Morrus mentioned- but I think it was handled pretty well. The final scene with Rose confronting the Doctor about trying to kill the Dalek actually brought me to tears (hope you guys don't think less of me for admitting that :).

The Peter Davison arc where the Doctor makes the decision to kill the Daleks (resulting in the alienation of companion Teagan) dealt with a similar situation with the Doctor, and I was surprised to see how well the writers (and, cannot stress enough, the performers) were able to pull off what is in many ways the same story. (That arc, btw, is one of the best in the Peter Davison run, and one of the best Dalek arcs, IMO).

The nods to Doctor Who continuity- especially the Cyberman head- were awesome. I really hope they turn up again soon. I still love the Dalek design, even though it is really kind of awkward and cheesy nowadays- still did pretty well going up against the more modern look of the new series ("What are you going to do, suck me to death? Aack!") I'm a little apprehensive about the supposed new Dalek look coming up.

More hints about the Time War, and the Doctor's role in it. More hints about "Bad Wolf" (which has been revealed as the title to the penultimate episode of the season). Good stuff, all around.

Finally- how hot was Rose in that tank top? Rrrowww!!

Sort of - there have been various times bits of daleks have been visible, but not the full creature IIRC, but the design has varied a bit over the years.

Last time it looked like a scrim scaft and some green bubble wrap. This was much more awesome. I loved how Eccleston played the 'badguy' as well as good. Dalaks are evil but can you ever just say that and kill them all? (Well yes, until the cheese-mutation)

My favourite part was the insides of the dalek, or possibley the owning of the internet

One question: Have we ever been shown the Daleks' insides before?

In one of the Tom Baker Dalek episodes, or possibly the Peter Davison one I mentioned earlier. They showed that there was an organic component to the Daleks for sure, underneath all of the armor. I can't recall offhand where it was shown, though. Might have been in one of the Davros episodes.

If memory serves, a Dalek got "blowed up real good" in "The Five Doctors," when the First Doctor managed to get the Dalek that was chasing him (and grown-up Susan) to shoot itself in the reflecting hallways with all of those mirrors. Its metal casing fell away, and there was the organic "brain with wavy tentacles" flailing around.

Awesome Episode. One dalek nearly leads to an Extinction-Level-Event. Nice.

Here's a good site about Daleks. As you might expect, the series itself has been inconsistent about both the Dalek's origins and their capabilities. I think it's safe to assume the dalek in this episode was an advanced unit or perhaps an experimental one. Regardless, that was a very fun episode.

The specifics of the time war are starting to give me a slight headache, but I like it. Presumably, the war was ulitmately between the daleks and the time lords, and they wiped each other out. How exactly this affected the time stream is what gives me the headache. Clearly, they are remebered throughout time (see episode 2, frex) and earth's future history has the daleks conquering the earth at one point. The confusion then becomes, how did the Time War play out? I mean, if the daleks of the future were destroyed, there are still daleks in the past with time travel technology, right? And who would someone know when the time lords were destroyed, if they travel back and forth through time? Like I said, confusing.

But I love every minute of it. Thank you, Russel T. Davies, for giving me Doctor Who back. I owe you a pint next time you swing round the pub. :D
