Some minimal spoilers follow...

Gave it a 7.

I'm kinda conflicted about the movie.

On one hand, I really enjoyed it, it didn't feel long at all, Raimi made good use of the time allotted, including setting up villains and motivations.

On the other hand some things just did not make sense at all, including
the whole Sandman/Ben Parker thing (retconn! retconn!)
, the symbiote wasn't given enough explanation, the way it was introduced kind sucked, and the way Sandman got his powers was idiotic. Peter gets all emo when he gets the suit too, which I found unintentionally hilarious.

Also, the whole 'butler' thing sucked. Hard. Really hard. And really stupid. C'mon Raimi!

Still, to anyone who didn't think Topher Grace could pull off Brock, I thought he was outstanding as both Brock and Venom. Smarmy and arrogant, with just enough screen time to adequately establish his motivations. Harry really comes into his own in this movie too.

It's really too bad that the climactic battle is staged around the whole
Mary Jane being a hostage yet again! Oh noez! Let's just retread the climaxes of the last two movies yet again!

Where's a rolleyes smily when I really need one?

Still, I enjoyed the movie though I certainly don't care if it doesn't follow the comics closely (the spirit is important more than the actual events considering comics generally have some of the crappiest retconns and history changes of any medium). The movie is not without its faults however.

Edit: added a spoiler tag, hope you don't mind. - Umbran

I gave it a 9. Two things knock it down a half point each:
the butler explanation
and
the ending
. Otherwise, a great Spider-Man movie.

Wow...

....did that suck.

The 1st one was average (the first hour was great, the second half kinda limped along until the end) the second one was french fried gold in it's awesomeness.

If the third one sucked anymore it would be a hoover vaccum cleaner.

See, I loved the first one, thought the second one was very very very lackluster, and enjoyed the new one. Oh well, different strokes.

I thought it was great. I agree with the weaknesses cited above (well, except for the Hoover-suckage bit... I disagree with that..!) but generally, it was a solid flick. I really like the way that Raimi plays up Peter Parker's emotions, so the audience seems to feel the highs and lows right along with him. If you liked the scene where Peter is walking with "raindrops are falling on my head" playing in the background in Spider-Man 2, then you will dig several scenes in SM3 as well.

I especially liked the choices on music; the jazzy snare drum background music when Peter is fighting... well, watch it. ;)

Thomas Hayden Church looks and acts *exactly* like my mental image of Flint Marko. Topher Grace looks *nothing* like Eddie Brock, but he sure does *act* like him-- it works surprisingly well. I was genuinely thrilled to see James Franco lose his 'whiny face' from the first two movies, and show much more acting chops than I gave him credit for having.

It is not fine art, but it is fun.

I gave it a 7. It was fun, but not up to the greatness of the first two (I'd give them both a 10.) In addition to some of the stuff that others have mentioned, there were a few plot points which didn't make sense/or important bits were left on the cutting room floor (like the scene on the bridge in the park - why did that happen exactly?)

I also didn't like the ending of this one at all. I can't really say why without spoilers, but I will say that the resolution of all 3 villians left much to be desired.

This movie had no plot, just a bunch of pretty action scenes tied between two musical numbers and a dance scene. A solid 3 and the more I think about it, the further it goes down. This movie isn't even a rental, its between an ondemand and wait for cable.

If you liked the first two movies because the story blended, you will hate this movie

If you liked the first two movies becaue of the deep character development you will hate this movie

If you like comic books, and enjoy the depth of the Green Goblin, Venom or Sandman, you will hate this movie.

If you like random elements thrown in to move the plot along IE rings, butlers, lockets, meteors, bells, songs, bangs, photoshop, cookies and pie, you will like this movie

If you like pretty action scenes that have no fluidity (especially the last where the action kept getting lost), you will like this movie

With 40 years of comic book history, it always trips me out when writers decide to write their own half cocked and incoherent stories.

Edit on and how could i forget the convinently located particle decelerator guarded by the sturdy six foot chain linked fence, because something that secret needs the best security.
(and of course the seven policemen chasing the convicted murderer and at 6 feet away from him do not shoot to kill)

I gave it a five.

This felt like two movies shoe-horned into one. It had an agonizingly slow start, and the third act was little more than action scenes with some humor tossed in.

I was afraid of what would happen with them trying to fit three villains into a single movie. Sandman and New Goblin would have been enough, with a lead-in to a fourth movie to cover Venom, and resolve the New Goblin story arc so that it carried the kind of weight something like that deserved.
