re Frostburn: Everyone worships ICE?!

Sure, snow and ice and sleet are a the basis of nature in Icefell settings. But you'd think a few intelligent sapiens living in the area would hold WARMTH and FIRE in high enough regard to include them in ... oh, I don't know ... reference to deities and/or prestige classes and the like. Most of us hairy creatures are warm-blooded, after all. We like to keep our body temperatures at a certain comfort level.

But nooooooo -- it's all blue and white and freeze-your-tuchas-off icy beauty throughout the whole darned book. Gimme a break! What's up with that?

Think of it as trying to keep the (mean) cold gods happy so they won't freeze your tushies off. Look at the Norse, Hel was (very) cold (the place, not the goddess). In the middle east, Hell is considered to be (burning) hot. Go figure.

obviously the desert people worship the warmth....if the people in the frozen lands wanted warmth they would obviously travel south to the warm lands

Reminds me of the "why do frost giant jarls have frost weapons?"thread.

That's called thematics, people.

And it's just stupid. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

I'm not suggesting that the ice-dwellers don't appreciate their environment. All I'm suggesting is that somewhere in the setting you'd expect to find someone with the common sense to honor life-sustaining WARMTH.

Theme? Feh! -- Lack of creativity is more like it. They boxed themselves into a "theme" to the exclusion of decent ideas.

Not all of the races in Frostburn are warmth oriented at all. Look at Uldra. They're fey. What do they care about cold or warm? They live where they live.

If you don't like it, fine, but it has nothing to do with lack of creativity. Frost giants live in the cold and use frost weapons because they live in the cold. It doesn't make sense, nope, but its the THEME. This is fantasy, not real life.

Those gods and prestige classes are already covered in other books. Want your eskimo to worship the harvest and the hunt and the value of a warm fire? Rename Yondalla (or not). Want them to worship the sun? Hello, Pellor.

Frostburn was the first time they were able to directly address what makes a cold environment DIFFERENT than the rest of the world. The rest of the world (and the accompanying books) are still assumed to exist.

Read the side of the book:
Frostburn: Mastering the Perils of Ice and Snow.

Doesn't say anything about fire and coals in there.

Also note that a lot of the stuff in the book has the Cold Subtype. Critters with the cold subtype probably are much more comfortable in colder areas.

I really think you're complaining just for complaining sakes...
