ummm, well, yeah - painted metal only, BUT

I like polls that force choices BTW - people are surely choosing the thing they mostly do and for me that's more informative.

Well I don't know about that. Since none of the poll choices seemed to be applicable to me, I just didn't vote in the poll and chose to reply with words instead. :)

I can almost say "all of the above". We use plastic ones. pewter ones and I certainly wish I had more time to paint them. those I do manage to paint usually turn out very nice. In games we'll use dice, counters, pebbles, Doritos or whatever is handy on the battlemat. We used to use our imaginations but man, I really like it better with minis. Much easier to get done with combat and get on to roleplaying. And when the new prepainted plastics from WotC come out, I'll be all over them.

Our group uses a combination of three. We use the figures from HeroQuest although the pieces are starting to show their ages. (A lot of our orcs and goblins are losing arms). The smooth, round, colored glass disks used in crafts and fish tanks make good counters and mass enemies. One of our group has 300+ of the pewter figures. They are all unpainted but not because of a lack of time--more of a lack of talent in painting. I'm not sure if we'll use the plastic figures.
