Reading Power damages (Holy Strike)

I managed to find the character sheets for KotS and DDXP a while ago, and have had some fun throwing them at monsters either shown on wizards.com or brewed in these threads, but I do have a question when it comes to reading powers. I'll give Holy Strike as an example.

Hit: 1d6 + 2 radiant damage. If you marked the target, you gain a +3 bonus to the damage roll.

What has confused me, and my group, are the way the bonus damage gets added in, maybe due to the way spacing is used.

Does the attack do 1d6 physical damage and then an additional 2 radiant damage? If the target has been marked, is the +3 damage radiant or is it physical?

When I was DMing, my paladin player got angry when fighting the boneshard skeleton, because he thought he should do 1d6 +5(marked) damage, all of it radiant.

I'm sure there are other powers have this possible mix of damage, and I was wondering if there was an official ruling, or what other people have been using.

Thank you.

If a power doesn't give any type of damage, it's physical. If it splits the damage, it specifically says so. If, however, it only gives one damage type, it's all of that damage.

In the above example, it's all radiant. 3 to 8 points of radiant damage. Your paladin player was correct.
