[real] Cave of the "Crystal Giants"

Since this article ties in with D&D imagery and themes, I thought I'd post it here (I don't think it's quite OT, so I hope the "real" tag suffices) :

"When I am in that Mexican cavern, it's like I have entered into a magical kingdom," remarks Tucson, Arizona-based photographer and adventurer Richard Fisher. "There are huge selenite crystals the size of pine trees, 30 to 50 feet high, with some weighing in excess of 10 tons. They're like geodes on steroids."

Unfortunately, there's only one photo, but people who are interested might be able to track down the February issue of Rock & Gem magazine.

Despite the fact that I almost always hate this sore of thing in movies, on TV and in novels, in real life it's just amazingly cool

The April issue of National Geographic has an article and pics of the cave.

They describe columns severa feet in diameter and 40 feet long. Its truly amazing, and like something of a D&D module.

But...

The cave is 1000 feet down in a private mine in a remote mountain in Mexico, the temperature down there is 150 degrees F, and the humidity is 100%. After only 5 minutes in the cave, people describe becoming severely disoriented from the heat and humidity, and its estimated that more than ten minutes would be lethal.

That's why there's not many pictures of the caves.
