Since this article ties in with D&D imagery and themes, I thought I'd post it here (I don't think it's quite OT, so I hope the "real" tag suffices) :
"When I am in that Mexican cavern, it's like I have entered into a magical kingdom," remarks Tucson, Arizona-based photographer and adventurer Richard Fisher. "There are huge selenite crystals the size of pine trees, 30 to 50 feet high, with some weighing in excess of 10 tons. They're like geodes on steroids."

Unfortunately, there's only one photo, but people who are interested might be able to track down the February issue of Rock & Gem magazine.
Despite the fact that I almost always hate this sore of thing in movies, on TV and in novels, in real life it's just amazingly cool
