Reaper's Legendary Encounters, August 6th

Darn it, I just bought the unpainted metal version of the ogre chieftain a couple of months ago, too -- haven't even opened the package!

I'm torn. I guess lots of people need orcs and skeletons, but between metal and DDM, I already have a ton of these.

I am looking forward to giants, though. I always find them some of the most time consuming mini's to paint.

I think this is an example of "walk before you run." People have been saying they want basic miniatures like this for a long time now, and Reaper is sort of giving them what they asked for. I'm actually very excited about the products, because I can use these miniatures for a lot of different things. It also gives me a chance to restock on minis for my Warhammer Quest game!

Now if only they were to do some goblins...

I can find huge quantities of orks and skeletins from used DDM sellers at a cheaper price (something like 50 cents). So I'm not really interested in that first offer, but I'm very optimistic for future releases. They should go for things DDM forgot to make in masses, like stirges.

DDM didn't *forget* to make anything in mass. You're dealing with scarcity by design.

I plan in picking these up, and I hope they do well. With all of the high-quality source material Reaper has, the sky's the limit.

I agree. The people looking forward to this line tend to fall into three categories (with overlap).

1) I want to be able to buy boxes of prepainted orcs/skeletons/other mooks.
2) I want to be able to able to get the DDM rares more cheaply/more easily.
3) WotC sucks/random miniatures suck, I'm not going to buy them in any fashion (even from secondary dealers).

Heh. I think I've already bought and painted most of these. I do, however, appreciate that Reaper seems to be providing a realistic representation of the quality of the minis, instead of using WotC's "here are what they look like...stripped down and professionally repainted, that is" method of presenting them to the public.

I'm looking at their website, and I can't seem to find when the next batch will be out and what type of creatures they will be. Does anyone have any idea, or know how often they plan on having new painted releases?

I was already iffy on the first run of these based on the paint masters; now that I can see the production version, I have to say these are ...fugly.

Maybe as they refine their process they'll get better.

This thread has some info, and links to more.

The key info being:

The next 2 sets of Legendary Encounters Releases will include Goblins, Zombies, A Gnoll, An Ettin, A Demoness, Kobolds, A Bathalian, Ghosts, A Succubus, and A Giant Worm. Would those be helpful?
