Reaper's Legendary Encounters, August 6th

Not bad for the first run, not bad at all.

I will say that those minis need a Dip (paint-on MinWax Polyshades - Antique Walnut Satin) pretty badly -- with that, they'd look incredible.
Very good call indeed!

For those unfamiliar with the technique -

Dipping
Here is a cool article on dipping figures in poly stain for speed painting. I have used it on Eastern Indians to great effect!
DIPPING FIGURES IN MINWAX POLYSHADE
Link stolen from my painting thread over in the art forum.

I've painted most of these, but I'll buy a few to support Reaper's endeavor.

I think some people will find that the minis aren't as cheap as they originally anticipated. I'm glad to see Reaper giving it a go, but I think for the most part I can get these figures in the D&D minis line for just as cheap (except maybe the Minotuar) via the secondary market.

Once they have the base models covered, Reaper should stick to doing the "Rare" minis in the D&D line. Since they are the ones that are expensive on the secondary market, they are the minis that people are most likely to buy from Reaper if they can do it for cheaper.

I agree.

It makes no sense to me, as a D&D DM, to invest in YET MORE skeletons, orcs and other "Commons" I pile up from my DDM purchases.

The non-random pre-painted miniatures I want are the ones I would have to pay unreasonable sums of money for on the secondary market.

i thought they look below average

orcs arent green (maybe Orks and Orcz are though!!)

and bad choice of range

i need things with more than 2 legs, all us DDM buyers have stacks of 2 legged humanoid shapes.

1.99USD seems high to me, even with the lovely exchange rate at the moment

Are they off a DDM/D&D scale?

Are the bases stable?

John

Now if they could be persuaded to make a 'pirate' range i will send them an advance for that!!

I'm less than impressed, especially for the price. The orcs are awful and the skeletons just look boring. As someone else mentioned, why do I need more commons? The minotaur looks ok I guess.

I don't get the non-standard bases either. That's a MAJOR flaw.

I probably won't be getting any unless I see them up close and change my mind.

It's the same bases as the Dark Heaven line. In fact, they are exactly the same minis as the DHL line. The bases are fine for RPGs.

Agreed. What we need to see are some succubus and other monsters that are either too expensive or hard to find. I was at my local store over the weekend and the succubus miniature was $15. For a medium mini with a simple paint job, i thought that was silly.

I actually thought they would look better myself. At least we have the option of picking and choosing, just plunk down $10 for several that look appealing. I think in the future (just like DDM) that if these prove popular, the sculpt/paint will dramatically improve

I think they look at least as good as the DDM stuff and in some respects better. And I think the DDM stuff is actually starting to go downhill -- some of the ones in the most recent set are just pathetic.

If Reaper commits to the line, I think you'll see some really good stuff. And my skeletons and orcs are old and beat up now anyway, so I can use more. Plus I won't have to feel like a tool for buying into the plasticrack.

(. . .) the minis that go for $.50 to $1.00 online are typically either from opened packages or part of some bulk liquidation on the part of the seller. Reaper's prices seem fair for new minis. Those packs of skeletons and orcs are a mighty welcome sight for those of us who don't want to buy a few hundred packs of minis to build an army of such 'grunts' :)

That's about the size of it. Not a bad deal for some decent figures. I look forward to seeing even more from them in this line.
