Recommend/review electric razors.

I'm thinking of getting an electric razor, and I'm wondering how the costs compare to normal razors, how well shaven I'll be afterward, and what other concerns I should have. Please, guys (and hairy women) tell me of your experiences with electric razors, and what you would recommend.

I've been using an electric razor for years. Norelco is the best. The one I have now can even be submerged in water to clean it out.

Just don't get one that shoots out shaving lotion. They don't last as long.

Also, replacement blades can be expensive - up to half the cost of buying a new electric razor. They last a long time though. As a rule of thumb, buy replacement blades for your model once, then just get a new razor. A good Norelco will last 2 1/2 to 3 years.

The model I have: Norelco 6826XL

Never used one myself, but I have an online subscription to Consumer Reports. Just checked it for you, and was surprised to see that they have not reviewed electric shavers since 11/02. As you might expect, Norelco rated best, followed by Braun and Remington.

I used an electric razor for a number of years and then on a lark used a blade. I've never used an electric one since. I found the blade was a closer shave and I far too often got a razorburn/friction rash from using the electric one.

Might just have been my experience though. Can't speak for anyone else.

I bought a Braun FreeGlider a while ago, but would not recommend it. I get a much closer shave with less effort when using my Mach 3. Plus it is less brutal on my skin.

I use an M3 Power razor. It's like less than 20 bucks, and does a dang good job. Gotta replace the blades regularly, but I actually like it more than the electric one I borrowed from my boyfriend.

You are, however, speaking for me.

And me, as well. And my dad, and grandfather, and several uncles and cousins that I've had these discussions with in the past. (Grandma's house could get pretty dull sometimes. ;) )

I have to second the Mach 3 Power razor. Seriously the best shave I've ever had, both with my face and my head, which I do shave. Even shaving my head if I use the blades as long as possible I'll get a good 3-4 weeks out of each blade which really isn't too bad at all. And then for me factor in that I don't have to pay for hair cuts ever...

I like the Persona Tri-Flex they sell at Wal-Mart. I've had some really bad results with cheaper or "generic" razors before - flimsy uneven blades that make it hard to get a close shave or that tear your face up - but I've been very happy and had similar results to what you describe having with the Mach 3. And the razor and the blades are about 1/2 to 1/3 the price. I typically use my blades for about a month, too.
