Recommendations for a Good Low-Level Module?

First Post
Hi all.

I am looking for a good low-level (as in 1st-3rd level) module for my campaign. I just voted on the "Best 1st ed. Modules" thread and said Village of Hommlett is my all-time favorite 1st ed. module because it has the following: (1) a well-detailed town with lots of characters and NPCs for the DM to play with, (2) a nearby mysterious dungeon with a great map and cool monsters/bad guys, and (3) intrigue and treachery in the town that is related to events in the dungeon and makes the town more than just a "rest stop" but a place for adventure in its own right.

So . . . ideally I'd be looking for something similar, although I am open to all suggestions, from any edition of D&D.

Can anyone recommend a good module? (BTW, my group has played Sunless Citadel, which is a great one, and Village of Hommlett, of course.)

Thanks for the suggestions!

Tomb of Horrors? :]

My favorite 1st lvl module of all time is U1: Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh, hands down. The town of Saltmarsh is not detailed, but it's still an integral part of the plotline. The module has cool locations, cool NPCs, cool enemies, cool story, oh it's just cool.

Village of Hommlet is probably my second favorite. Love the little tidbits of info about all the individual farmers, etc.

I'll second Death In Freeport - especially since it's been released in a revised PDF format (reminder to self to pick it up when starting next campaign...).

I also recommend Raiders of Galath's Roost from Dungeon magazine... I would recommend the first of the Shackled City adventure path adventures too, as it includes(1) a town with lots of characters and NPCs for the DM to play with, that grow as the characters do, and you keep interacting iwth them for many future adventures, (2) a plethora of nearby mysterious dungeon with great maps and VERY cool monsters/bad guys, and (3) intrigue and treachery in the town that is related to events in the dungeon and makes the town more than just a "rest stop" but a place for adventure in its own right. However, the actual dungeon crawl attached to the first module was FAR too large for a level 1 adventure in our experience... it kept dragging on and on when it could have been a lot more exciting. But the adventure path does rock, overall. IMO.

Seconded for Raiders of Galath's Roost. A very good low level adventure and lots of hooks to build from it (there are in fact two sequels I believe that Skip Williams has created for it, admittedly, not one after the other, but sequels all the same).

Galath's Roost story Arc - Forgotten Realms (but easily adaptable):

Raider's of Galath's Roost
- 1st level, Dungeon #87, 32 pages
Woe to Mistledale - 8th level, Dungeon #100, 20 pages
Secrets of the Arch Wood - 13th level, Dungeon # 121, 14 pages

I would like to recommend Crucible of Freya (I scrapped the plot, but used the locations and that is easy to do), and The Vault of Larin Karr, both by Necromancer Games. The latter has some nice town details and NPC's with lots of subplots.
