RECRUITING CLOSED! 4ed: The Wolfcrown

I must give my apologies, had a heavy time at work, including some unplanned away from internet time.

I might be a bit patchy over the next week or so, but should have more reliable internet at home soon.

Sorry, HM. i wish I'd have known you were here. I was just waiting on you and Phaezen. Anyway, you can have Torath go down in the middle with the rangers, if you like, or you could stay up top and command one of the squads of archers. You could even try to sneak around and flank the villains. It's up to you.

NP I check in everyday so when you are waiting on me just, let me know. I will post something to the effect of where Torath wishes to be but will stick with the group if they choose something else.

Alrighty, been considering my options for Thorn. Let me get some outside opinions to help me decide.

1) Thorn, suspecting some manner of treachery, organizes a defense force within the city as well. The idea being that it doesn't do much good for her to impersonate the Queen if she stops impersonating her at the first sign of trouble...and additionally, that magical means like teleportation rituals could send small teams of elite troops into the city, bypassing the pass completely.

2) Thorn, in guise and regalia of Queen, goes to the pass to rally the troops there, and perhaps draw out more assassins for us to try to kill before they can kill Thorn. :)

3) Thorn assumes new disguise and goes to the pass to help fight, leaving the palace empty of a queen.

I've listed the options roughly in order of the degree to which I'm inclined to do them. The problem is that 1) feels the most like what Thorn would actually do...but it runs the risk of taking her out of a combat where she may be needed, which hurts the party, and it hurts her personally since she misses out on exp and rewards. 2) is an acceptable compromise, though her ability to fight while simultaneously pretending to be the Queen will be curtailed a bit. 3) is mechanically the easiest option, but it is narratively inexplicable, and completely nullifies (IMO) the point of Thorn ever having pretended to be the Queen in the first place.

Thoughts?

How about a combo of 2 and 3. Thorn comes to the pass as the queen and rallies her troops. During the fighting she is safe guarded (i.e. kept out of sight) from assassins and Thorn joins us in a ranger guise to take on the bad guys.

Just for the record, if Thorn decides to stay out of combat for a good IC reason, she won't miss out on exp and rewards. Don't let exp be a factor. Choose however you feel would be best, and know that you won't be penalized.

All right. Big long post in which Thorn explains her battle plan.

The upshot is this.

She wants the city patrolled, with lookouts, to try to smoke out infiltration attempts and/or "special ops" teams that could get teleported in. The lookouts would also be a first line of warning against something exotic like incoming airships or similar.

If, after the battle is joined, it becomes apparent that the cigar is just a cigar, and Thorn's elaborate notions of what Teach might do are wrong, she'll lead the charge to reinforce the pass with the troops in the city.

Thus, Thorn can at least try to save the day if the battle goes badly. If not, she'll be on CYA duty to make sure we're not caught with our pants down if the GM turns out to be a tricky sneaky dude. :)

To Shayuri: I am indeed a tricky, sneaky dude. But perhaps I knew that you knew that!

To everyone: wonderful posts over the past couple days. The battle will commence tomorrow!

Hey DF... I can spend an action point to try and give the elves another shot at a better initiative. I'm not liking that they go AFTER the thugs as they'll get to move before the first volley of arrows is fired... Just another roll and take the second result even if it's worse?
