APPEARANCE
Thorn, like any changeling, can change her appearance at will, even to imitate other races or genders. In her natural form she is a skinny humanoid female with slightly off-white hair, smooth grey skin, white eyes and underformed nose and mouth. She dresses in street clothes that aren't much better than peasants might wear...a poor shopkeep's or servant's clothing. She keeps a deep dark grey suit of clothes as well. The shape Thorn assumes 'by default' is that of a human woman with black hair, dark eyes and handsome features.
BACKGROUND
Thorn was born and raised in Port September; an outlaw among outlaws. Her natural talents and potential caught the eye of surly old man who begged for coin in the alley near her room. He called himself 'Old Squint,' and he had once been an officer of the guild under Teach. A scheming underlying had set him up though, and in retaliation for the perceived crime Teach had his hands cut off so that he could never work for a living again. But in Thorn he saw the possibility for a new set of hands...
Old Squint taught Thorn much of what he knew, and she learned quickly and well. He knew though that she would need greater powers still if she was to be the instrument of revenge he wished her to be. And so on a moonless night, Squint invoked dark forces and revealed his tale to Thorn for the first time in its fullness. She had to give herself to the Shadow willingly, and Squint hoped her loyalty to him was strong enough to convince her to do it, when she learned of what had become of him.
Thorn stepped into the black flame after a long moment of hesitation, and emerged again transformed. She had power now, yes...but she was also achingly aware of the cost Old Squint had tricked her into paying. Unfortunately, circumstances conspired to prevent a confrontation between the two rogues. Agents of the Teach...alerted by the widespread and strange side effects of the calling of the Shadow...came into the alleyway, and Thorn was separated from Squint. By use of her new abilities she managed to escape into the dark corners of the city...but it rapidly became apparent that they weren't just going to give up. Without any recourse, Thorn found a sailor, rendered him unconsious and took his form and clothes. In his guise she fled Port September, with heavy heart and divided loyalties. She could either return one day...to complete the task Squint had set before her, and garner some vengeance on her own, or she could try to find a way to win back what Shadow had taken.
Either way, Thorn knew she had a long road to walk...and it started in Black Lake.
