Rediscovery of the World - 4e (OOC)

Yehna's got a proper backstory now. The relevant part (i.e. when she was with Isdar and is father) is below.

[sblock=Post discovery traveling with Isdar and his father]Yenha spent almost half a year traveling with Isdar and his father. She was tremendously difficult at times, her parents had doted on her shamelessly, and their loss, compounded with the vastly different and more difficult living conditions of the current time, made her demanding and difficult. Even so she was unhappy with being left behind at Thum-Binyas.

This character is wildly indulgent. I'm quite obsessed with the idea that the swordmage is supposed to be a sort of mini-controller and I've taken almost all of my powers (except my daily) with that in mind.

Read: I don't actually have a proper melee attack power, so I'll be using a basic attack for that (I did take Intelligent Blademaster so I won't be hideous with it).
I do have an
  • at will: ranged 3 "pull" power (so I can drag attackers off people)
  • at will: a close burst 1 (minion wacking)
  • encounter: melee attack that immobilizes (so if we run into an Irontooth I can hopefully tie him down for a round and then shift away)

I kinda wanted to use aegis of shielding, but I couldn't resist the "free 10 square teleport" (and genasi have a lot of aegis of assault related feats)

If the daily does what I think it does (and ata agrees with me) I may be able to "premptively block an attack".

Looking forward to joining "Lopy" :] and the rest of you. :)

Welcome on board Graf.
About Frost backlash. I think it's poorly worded, but the intent is clear to me: it's a "immediate interrupt" action that triggers on an enemy "hitting" you. So the attack takes place after the enemy has rolled succesfully, but before the damage takes place (and it doesn't, because interrupt actions should...you know, well, interrupt).
Nice power indeed.

I had this wacky idea:
When Earth and Malek fought the lizardmen and the warforged attacked one with its fists , i thought: What about having Earth's hands covered by earth and hardened like stone, having the properties of, say a Maul or a warhammer. As in game mechanics, his weapon can be subdued or dissarmed, simply making it shattered in pieces. The time it would take him to pick up his weapon would be the one spending in hardening his hands again.
They could deal less damage than a weapon if you think so.
That we there could be a lots of powers that could be easily flavoured, for example:
Spinning sweep could be changed to something like Earthquake strike: Hitting the ground you lift the blocks of stone or earth to make your foe's stability crumble to dust.
Or
Tide of Iron could be Rock's Step: You step forward, pushing your opponent backwards with your hard and bulking body

And so On, I could modify the fluff of the entire power list, given that you approve the issue of the hands-for-weapon.

I posted this on blocks because its embarrasing to post such delirious mumble jumble. Consider it's 4 AM in the morning. :D

[sblock=voda]ok... let's leave plot hooks coming to my mind that I can't tell you about now ;)...
Mechanically I'd say this is flavorful, and can work, but we have to balance advantages and disatvantges with those of an average warforged fighter. So let's say you have basically two choices (like the weapon mastery of fighters). you get +1 to-hit with your style of choice. That is permanent, but you can change the "conformation" at every extended rest (like a fighter could switch between having a shield and having a two-handed weapon) In both cases, your hands are not suitable fro weapon use and you receive no proficiency bonus from them. Also, if you use the first conformation, you can't use a shield. If you choose the second, your arm slot are considered occupied (as if you had a shield). You can't be disarmed. Here are the choices I thought about:

1- Both your fists become covere with rocky formations, and your knuckles ahow signs of crystallization. You can use your fists as +3/1d8 dmg+1 weapons. You benefit from feats and powers as if you were using two-handed weapons. (eg you can use potent challenge)

2-One of your fists is covered with rocky formations, you can use it as a +2/1d6 weapon. The other hand, along with the underarm, is hardened and becomes significantly larger. You don't gain an AC or reflex bonus from it, but you benefit from feats and powers as if you had equipped a shield (eg you can use tide of iron)

We can think about custom feats, magic items, or even paragon paths... tell me what you think about it.[/sblock]

I was thinking on something like that.
Let me do a little math here;
so I have a +3 1d8+1 "weapon" I should add a +4 from Earth's str and +1 for being a two handed weapon. Then I should add a +4 to damage. I don't think I should add the +1 for wielding two handed. That would leave me +8 1d8 +5 right?
It seems balanced, I get more chances to hit but reduce my damage from 1d12 to 1d8. I say its a fair trade of combat skills. :)
I liked the idea of the extended rest, quite cool. IC he could see his "Elemental side" grow for the contact with the genasi. But that's up to you.

[sblock=voda]yes that +1 to dmg is indeed similar to what you get wielding versatile weapons two-handed. Also, what kind of weapon type did you have in mind to master (if any)? I'd say these should be considered hammers, but i'm open to different ideas.

OT: what about koryo?[/sblock]

[sblock= Ata]
HAving little time now, will post later.
About Koryo: I'll write a general update today at night. Your role playing him great. Rock on ninja buddy![/sblock]

Master? Well I "had" an axe, but I should consider mastering in his brand new fists, They would be similar to a heavy blade I think, or to a maul if they are blunt.
