Remnants of the Horde:The Return of Zuregath

Finally!!!!

"Keep banners lifted. Let army know Zuregath will take back him's castle. March!"

For himself, Durgo holds his banner as far above him as his thick arms and bulky armor will allow.

Their journey across the plains continue. Durgo assigns more scouts to send word of Zuregath's return to the scattered remnants, and bring those remnants back to him.

Durgo also desires a base camp. Some place he can see the walls and the fields from. More importantly, a place where the armies can see him and Zuregath's banners.

"Gather the banners! Form ranks! ZUREGATH HAS RETURNED!"

Bargo grabs up an orc leg and rips it out of the socket, then crunches into muscle, bone, and marrow with a bored expression. Normally Durgo's campaigns have lots of maimings and killings. Dum Durgo keep yelling, what good waving flags. Bargo wave elfie heads. That better. But no elfies here.

Bargo shambles over to Kurg, chewing as blood splatters all over him with a ridiculously pensive face for an ogre. He grunts low, face all scrunched up, "Hey Shay-man.. Who Bargo here to eat? Bargo forget. Walking stoopid. Bargo should be killing things."

Wekerak, not trusting Frostbite around fire-creatures, spurs his way over to the orcs first. Halting just inside the range of the great wolf's breath, he calls to them,

"I speak in the name of the muragar Durgo. Who leads here?"

One of the Orcs sneers at Wekerak for a moment and then sees his Corporal's Skulls (Chevrons aren't Myrachian) and straightens up a bit.'Nobody leads, Chieftain killed yesterday, ate by Hydra.Who Durgo, Ogre? We follow Ogre if he strong, show us Ogre.'

The Orcs gather their things, ready to go.

OoC:You are a nutter. I sent out the goblins as 'Scouts', since that's what they are anyways. Results after an hour:

Goblin 1 didn't return...

Goblin 2 returned with 2 Fire Mephits, curious to see who was claiming that the lord had returned.

Goblin 3 returned quite quickly, carried by 1 of 10 gargoyles, all wearing collars with Zuregath's Red Dragon uponthem. they land, eyeing Durgo dubiously, awaiting what he has to say.

Goblin 4 does not return...

Goblin 5 returns with 4 more Red Fist orcs. They seem very impressed by Durgo, and bargo in particular, and fall in with the other Orcs.

Goblin 6 returns with a small group (8) of Goblins. These carry tools and lots of ropes, with weaponry seeming secondary. This Goblin proudly proclaims that they are Engineers.

Goblin 7 returns with 4 Bugbears, dressed similarly to Nilgo. After a short conference with him, they fall in, showing quite a bit of discipline for their kind.

Goblin 8 returns with a Troll dressed in spiked leather, a huge maul over his shoulder. the goblin loos very nervous, running to the ranks as soon as he spots them. The Troll was slavering quite a lot while eyeing the Goblin. he know looks properly cowed (Bargo intimidate '20'), quietly hunkering down and eyeing the Orcs hungrily.

Goblin 9 returns...or at least part of him does. A Huge Ogre rounds the bend, chewing on a goblin leg. He is obviously Muragar and both Durgo and Bargo know him, Krong, another Chieftain of a smaller detachment.Krong is accompanied by his pet manticore,Duffo.
Upon seeing Durgo, Krong looks genuinely suprised at his presence here. Upon seeing Bargo, he is dumbfounded, having thought that the Half-Breed would have been killed in the Battle. He walks up, acnowledging Durgo's Captain's Skulls with an approving eye.'Gulguthan, what this talk of Zuregath returning. We knows him Dead.Prob'bly Bevrokk's treachery.' Krong spits upon the ground at the mention of the Iron King whose troops currently fight to steal Castle Zuregath.

Goblin 10's return is preceded by an Infernal barking, and he rounds the bend with a huge smile, having done his job well. He sits upon the shoulderof a Fire Giant, around whose feet cluster 5 Hell Hounds.

OoC: New tallies of troops

Wekerkak jerks his tumb in the direction of Vespazian, never taking his eyes off the orcs.

"We go this way, join troops on way to Durgo. Led by humie captain Vespazian." Wekerak shrugs at the man's species, "Force is growing and we gather more on plains. Be mailed fist, to smash enemy."

Vespazian and Co.

Tsu'koka is content to let his beast amble along a few yards behind Vesparzian. His eyes rove across the landscape, but there is little to see here.

His fingers occupy themselves with the mace that lies accross his lap, and his mind occupies itself going back over the various combinations of songs and spells that have been used on various units and individuals for various ends and with various degrees of success. Of course, knowing what has happened means little. No two battles were the same. One had to understand what has happened before to gain any wisdom from it. And to this end Tsu'koka devotes himself.

For Tsu'koka has never been naturally able at this. Soui'jar had been a master, able to understand the forces at work and turn a battle through the use of spell and song on pivotal units and individuals. A little force is given great leverage if one can see the appropriate pivots. Tsu'koka regreted killing him. The dying Song Speaker's smile and last words still haunted Tsu'koka. He knew that there was wisdom in them somewhere, but he had not been able to find it.

Of course, Soui'ja had had great battle and campaigns in which to learn to read the beast. Where as Tsu'koka had spent most of his service doing petty dog work. Even the battles had mostly been petty. Petty battle for petty masters. Enough! Tsu'koka's snarl is loud enough to draw a glance from the Marshall. If you want to wallow in self pity, cut yourself and join the orcs. There is no end to the orcs self pity. Goblins have more grit than orcs. Hobgoblins have no time for self pity. Greatness is not given.

The sudden reappearence of the gnolls, followed shortly by the giant (and the third gnoll) returns Tsu'koka back to the here and now.

... the Giant said, looking right at Vespazian 'It is going to take a lot more troops than this to retake the Castle, Captain...'

Tsu'koka releases the spells that had been unwinding themselves in his mind, relaxes a little and settles back in the saddle to see what came next.

The Orcs nod, garbbing their gear and trottig off towards the waiting Captain.

OoC:Try for the Mephits, or leave them?

Durgo chuckles as the great Muragar spits, "It take more den Iron King to kill Krong. Good dat him alive and comes now. Zuregath no dead, only resting. Must find Shayman BIG-big," Durgo flexes his muscles, trying to emphasize how mighty the shayman he imagined would be, "to wake him up. Den all dis go away and we smash dem elfies once and for all!"

"But first," Durgo points toward the Castle, "we take back volcano.

"You's gobbies, how long until you make way inside? Over, or under or through, Durgo no care.

"You's uder gobbies, you do good. No eat you's tonight. Now go out and find Durgo more."

The Gulgathan gaze grows more pensive as he thinks back to another moment when it seemed the odds were so greatly stacked against them.

Tell Zuregath that Rulgiir Bloodfang comes to aid him in his time of need...

Durgo looks South where the red dragon had taken wing not so long ago. He couldn't remember anything else the dragon had said, but at least he remembered that much.

Ravarg had once told Durgo that dragons could hear for miles. That's why they had to sneak into the Gold one's lair starting at the river instead of the base of the mountain, adding a full day to the trek. Now he wonders if Ravarg's words were true...

"RULGIIR BLOODFANG!! ZUREGATH CALLS TO YOU!!

Turning back to the gathered forces, he commands them to hold their banners higher, raises his great Maul and bellows to the sky, hoping the noise would be enough to draw more of the tattered army to him.

"FOR ZUREGAAAAAATH!!!"
