Replacing the human "+1 all" bonus...

I had a BIG issue with the +1 to all, when it was first included. I'm okay with it, now, though. What changed? They made it pretty clear that it only applies to adventuring humans. The baker doesn't get it.

One of the defining characteristics of the human race is that, while the average human is pretty unremarkable, the race, as a whole, trends to turn out some really amazing heroes. Those are the specimens who get the +1 to all.

From a meta-game stand, I prefer a human-centric game.

What about this in place of +1 to all ability scores.

Increase your proficiency bonus by +1

Bonus proficiency of choice (skill, weapon, armor, or tool)

Humans aren't as strong as half orcs, as dexterous as elves, or as stout as dwarves, but they are exceptionally adaptable and quick learners.

That's genius! It's perfectly simple and fits with the human "Exemplars of Ambition" description.
I'm to use it!
