And now to address the question:

I don't know! This would have to be decided at the highest level (i.e. Russ). My best guess as to what he might decide is ... EN World is going to be composed of people who play 3.0 and those who play 3.5 and plenty who play something in between (and even a few who don't play either one). We're all going to have to get along.

Now, if the issue is how to best find info, get questions answered, etc. for 3.5 specifically -- I anticipate that for some time folks are going to want to use good labels in their subject headings and message text to make sure folks know if you're discussing 3.0 v. 3.5.

It'll definitely be interesting, but I don't forsee 3.0 and 3.5 getting boxed off from each other.

Moved to Meta...

RM, we've discussed this a few times between all of us, without a solid conclusion. At current, unless Morrus or Pcat corrects me, we have decided not to change anything until after Gencon.

For the current time, we encourage everyone to put a "[3.0]" or "[3.5]" tag at the beginning of their topic if it only involves a single edition.

I hope this answers your question!

The only thing that might be useful would be two seperate rules forums. Apart from that, the site would probably handle the mixed crowd quite well. They seem to handle people with house Rules more drastic than 3.5 well, at least.

Rogues Gallery might be useful to demand tags, so youc an leach NPCs more easily.

slitting it would hurt the community. We all play with slightly different rules in slightly different settings and we sem to be managing just fine. Every week that goes by there wil be less and less division. Using tags identifying the version should work fine. Listen to your local toe, he knows best :)

I came to Meta to start a thread on this topic...and here it already is. Not for the first time, I expect, too.

Given the very precise nature of the discussions in the rules sections, I don’t see how it is realistic to cover two games in the one forum. Any two games, but In fact two games that are significantly different but also very, very similar strikes me as the worst possible scenario. It seems to me that many threads will become muddled, and that the best way for people to be sure which game they are talking about would be to have separate forums for them. I anticipate the general forum becoming more and more 3.5-oriented, and thus perhaps of less interest to people who don’t switch to the new version, so it seems like it would be nice if there was still a rules forum. You know, for those of us who intend to be willfully stuck in time, playing an out-of-date game, like myself.
Either way, of course, there is always something interesting to read here.

Cheers!

Too many people all ready struggle to put a thread in the right forum. Adding more forums would increase the problem.

Besides, it could become a real mess. You could end up with the 3.0 Rules Forum, 3.5 Rules Forum, 3.0 House Rules Forum, 3.5 House Rules Forum, 3.0. It would be much simpler to use tags to identify a specific thread.

I don't see it as particularly a problem, as long as people clearly state if they're using 3.5 or 3.0 - which some people do and some people don't. I think the best course of action would be to put an announcement up asking people to do this.

More generally, it should ask people to use the bracket tags more regularly - it works for OT posts, but I seem to recall Paizo asking people to use a [Paizo] tag for stuff on Dragon/Dungeon/Poly so they could more easily identify these threads (assuming they haven't given up on the boards).

Even more generally, it should be asking people to post stuff to the right boards. Looking through the topics on the General forum right now, I can see several that probably should be in House Rules or Rules, a few that belong in Plots & Places, and one or two that could go in other forums.
