Reserve Feats are Wonderful!!

It's comments like these that make me think Reserve feats are mostly balanced. :)
I haven't seen this book yet, but from Warlocklord's description it seems to me (and I hope I'm wrong) that this reserve feat will make Warlocks obsolete, which is funny b/c I believe Warlocks made Sorcerers obsolete.

There was a big discussion about this awhile ago, and the concensus was that reserve feats do very little to make Warlocks obsolete. Limited range, less damage (and typed at that), and few enhancements, etc... The Warlock's niche is still secure.

I too am impressed with the new directions:

Augmentable Psionic Powers (XPH)

Warlocks (CArc)

Tome of Battle Maneuvers (ToB:Bo9S)

Reserve Feats (CM)

All look very interesting to me.

WotC has shown a big interest in pushing the boundries of 3.5, which I like. Despite the fact that someone labeled Dragon Magic as forgettable above (*sob*), when we were designing the book we were encouraged to do new things, particularly with spells. One thing I really thought was fun were the "synergy buff" spells, which are suites of four spells that have extra effects when 2 or 4 of them are up on you at once. Anyways, point being, WotC is definitely encouraging us designers to think outside the box with nearly every aspect of the game.

I, too, like the reserve feats, and they're something I've been hoping to see for a while. Really, though, I wish I were playing a wizard instead of a sorcerer right now in one of my games, so I could use them!

The elimination of the "no feat should be as good as or better than those in the PHB" design philosophy, beginning with PHBII, may have been the watershed moment in further 3.5 design. I applaud whomever took a stand and made that happen.

I'm loving the reserve feats. I'd actually consider playing a wizard now.

Of course those tweaks can often be frustratingly, missing the mark or not terribly useful.
Por Example:
Legacy Weapons compared to Legendary Weapons in Unearthed Arcana.
Dragon Magic, an utterly forgettable book compared to Complete Mage.

Complete Mage is wonderful, the mechanics are nice, but the break down of Arcane Caster Archetypes delineating the best spells and feats to chose for the role you want to play is brilliant, and very fun to read.

Agreed on all counts.

I might even say Complete Mage is better than Complete Arcane,(and they go very nicely together), and I think by common decree most people feel Complete Arcane is the best of the Complete series.

Complete Arcane catches a lot of flack for the IMO underrated Wu Jen, but people love the IMO overrated Warlock.

Past polls here seem to tag Complete Adventurer as the most loved.

I do love how WoTC has started pushing the boundaries of 3.5 I can only hope that version 4 is as good.

I find myself looking through complete adventure more than complete arcane anymore. Of course that is most likely because I have half of complete arcane memorized.

The warlock has always seemed to me to be overrated as well. I personally enjoy it, but the Wu Jen is also enjoyable.

BTW, what does a "reserve feat" generally do? :p
I have the specified reserve feat, say Evocation, fire based.

As long as I have a certain type of prepared to use as a battery, i can be a ghetto-fabulous warlock with shorter range and energy-typed damge.

6th level spell that has a fire desciptor*, 6d6 fire blast, range 30'.

I can do this till i pull the battey [cast the spell] and have no other similar spells.

and just to mention, spells that do not have descriptor decided untill cast, do not function for reserve feats that need a desciptor.

Like a summon monster or [i believe]fire shield.

I dislike of these feats because i worry about my poor dungeon walls ;) and players trying to use these for blowtorches and other shenannigans. But overall these feats sound reasonanble if the warlock is also allowed.
