Do those that think two bladed swords being ridiculous have a problem with Darth Maul?

Yeesh.

Watch that fight more closely. Darth Parks cuts his own leg off about 5 times. 2 bladed swords came from that silly fight scene in the first place.

:D The force is strong in him! ;)

I first wanted to object saying that D&D 3E came out before Starwars Episode I, but... I checked my facts and it in fact, did come out before that. Damn!

*melodramatic* Is it really 9 years now that our childhoods have been raped?

just kididing. I might not find the movie as good as the originals, but my childhood is still pretty much intact. ;)

Time flies...

Of course, I could claim that this could possibly have had no influence at all, since D&D 3E was already so far in the development process... But I suppose there might actually be a hint that double-weapons came late in the process, considering that the Rangers Two-Weapon Fighting ability didn't seem to interact well with double weapons, making the Quarterstaff wielding Two-Weapon Fighting Ranger - which seemed pretty archetypal to me - impossible to pull off.

In the last campaign, there was one fight with a two blade wielding NPC (hobgoblin ranger, I think).

I played Star Wars music.

Two bladed swords may have made it into the PHB 3.0 because of starwars, but its not an original idea. Heck i made crayon drawings of guys wielding double swords back in the late 80's, i doubt i'm the first to ever consider it. That being said i must acknowledge the fact that i was drawing in crayon when i thought they were cool. There is a reason they don't see much actual use. Still, in fantasy where people are dual weilding bastard swords (come to thing of it, i drew that one in crayon as well...) i don't see a staff with blades on both ends being more ridiculous. They have a market, you may as well put them in the books. Just make sure they're edge cases, not the traditional weapon of the orc/gnome/tri-keen.

(i also drew sword-chucks in crayon....actualy they were more spike-chucks, wielded by little green and yellow men....i wish i'd saved more of those pictures)

Actually, yes, even though I'm one of the rare people who enjoyed the prequels more than the original 3 Star Wars movies (although, admitted, I prefer Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith by far to Phantom Menace).

Darth Maul's two-bladed lightsaber makes me wince as much as Jar-Jar Binks. Although there's a lot of difference between a magical weightless sword used by a force-warrior and someone trying to heave two sharp-edged metal blades back and forth without gutting themselves. I think to use it you'd need to jump up in the air and twirl your whole body left and right in time to the hops -- I guess your opponent might die laughing, but he sure wouldn't die from anything you were doing, unless he was tied up and unarmored.

Well, since double scimitars are a big part of the Valenar elves in Eberron, I was certain they'd not go far (and this might look like a double-scimitar).

Kudos to them for lengthening the handle closer to a useable length.

Now they just need to be a tad longer:
