Return of the King: critics choice for best picture

Hyp - great job with the quotes there. That must have taken some time.

And it's not even out on DVD here yet :(

There will be geek-riots in the streets and blood will flow if RotK isn't given the awards.

And noone wants to see millions of Geeks in a Blood Rage, I can assure you.

And yet I hold a morbid facination as to how a "geek-riot" would play out.

PJ and the movie will get nominations but I would be very surprised if it, or he, won any major award.

barsoom - you're welcome to keep showing everyone how you completely missed MAJOR portions of the film.
If you'll actually READ my initial post

:D

you'll see I'm asking if my memory of events is accurate -- so I guess I AM showing people how I missed portions of the film -- by asking them about it. Wow, I'm sure embarrassed. That's some keen wit you're flashing about there, reap. Watch out, might hurt somebody.

Hey, if I'm on stage does that mean I don't get any popcorn?

He's had a run of bad luck, obviously - look at the boat he has at the start of the film. He's looking to steal the Interceptor, because it's the only ship he's heard of that has a chance to run down the Pearl. But he's still no closer to knowing where to find it...

... until it comes looking for the last medallion.
"A run of bad luck"? Yeah, okay, it makes enough sense.

I saw the film once, it largely bored me and so I admittedly paid very little attention to it. I don't pretend to be an expert on the film, nor do I claim to be able to critique it in any detail. It didn't engender in me a strong enough reaction that I could do so. My biggest problems with it were the wooden acting of the two leads (and their complete lack of chemistry), the hammy direction, the lame dialog, the silly contrivances of the plot, the bad fight scenes and the number of times I was expected to just turn off my brain and not think. I'll do that happily for a film that delivers other joys, but I got nothing out of this picture.

I'm glad people liked it, though. I guess.

But you're forgetting one thing, mate.

... he's Captain Jack Sparrow!

What was I thinking? He's Captain Jack Sparrow!

You refer to the wooden performance of the "two leads".

Next time you watch it, think of it this way - the two leads are Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush.

Bloom and Knightley are featured extras.

HIt would be the last nail in the coffin of the Oscars, effectively PROVING to everyone what many people already feel - that the Academy is hopelessly out of touch with what movies are about.
I believe that was the year Wings won.

Oh yeah, if they'd cut every scene with Bloom and Knightley, the film would be like four or five times better. Easily.

It'd also be a lot shorter, which I understand is better, too.

But that cuts out a whole lot of Captain Jack Sparrow scenes, and he gets nearly all of my favourite lines! (Gibbs squeaks in with one of them, but all the rest are Captain Jack's...)
