Reviewing the older versions of D&D

I have been thinking about reviewing old and sometimes forgotten Dungeons and Dragons games and modules starting with the original products. There are plenty of reviewers that go out and purchase the newer games and give their desired opinions on whether the product is good or not. Because sites such as ENWorld and DriveThruRPG allow the downloading of older out of print books, such as the original Dungeons and Dragons books and boxed sets I believe many people are interested in trying out some of the older versions of this most popular game.

So who would be interested in having one or more ENWorld fans review some of the older versions of the games and modules and post their findings on this board? If there is enough interest I am thinking of downloading one or two modules a month, perhaps starting with ODnD's "In Search of the Unknown" or AD&D's "The Lost Caverns of Tsojconth". Or even some of the lesser known accessories such as "The Shady Dragon Inn". Would anyone be interested in joining me as a reviewer so that people may have more than one point of view? Is this just a bad idea and not worthy of my time?

I'd love to see a really thorough analysis of that old schooler's bible, the 1e DMG.

White Dwarf used to give those old D&D modules pretty bad reviews, as I recall, saying they were mostly random hackfests. Of course these days I now realise random hackfests are a good thing. :)

I think it's really the BEST DMG ever done. And maybe the BEST rpg product EVER. It's sooo complete. So useful! You can used it actively during play. You consult it constantly out of play to build and administer your campaing. It's got everything covered and more.

The BEST DMG someone has made EVER.

It's not just another "how to be a good DM" or "nice read" book alas 2E DMG. It's really a DM tool and reference to D&D play.

Monte's Guide is very good too. But none has equaled Gary's.

Interestingly, I was planning to start reviewing the classic D&D adventure modules and posting my reviews on my ENWorld and my personal Web site. I had been thinking about it for a few weeks. I have some time this week, so I was going to write the first one or two in the next couple days. I own most of the classic modules.

I wasn't planning to start with In Search of the Unknown, but it is a fine one to start with.

I have written a review for In Search of the Unknown, and just need a place to post it. Should we do this here on the message board or in the review area? If we do it here on the General forum, I can start the first thread for the first module (B1), and everyone can add their reviews in replies.

I have even used many of the 1st Ed. DMG in my 3rd Ed. Games. It has lot's of edition neutral and great stuff.

I agree with this. I still use mine quite often for my 3.X games.
