Revised Dungeon Master's Guide Cover Online!!

I like it. Seeing the cover on ENWorld was the first I'd seen it (read into that as much or as little as you'd like). I like it much more than the new PH cover, which seemed like just like the old PH cover, but with more "stuff."

I still like that the three core books have the "tome" kind of feel. I'm sad, however, that so many others took that as a cue and put out books with pretend book covers as well. I'm a fan of cool cover art and miss it on a lot of products (WotC and otherwise).

I'm not a big fan of this general blocky-style to begin with (so I have not been too fond of the 3e. books) and therefore my overall opinion of the cover is not-so-excited.

But, with the style choice aside, I don't find it bad at all.

What's with all the round and semi-spherical ornamentations? I can't think of a worse thing to do to a book cover. The old DMG, with the lock and key was nifty (though there was a lot of blank blue space) and something that might even let the book it illustrated stack in some semblance of normality. This thing.. has a friggin globe sticking out of it! How the hell do you stack a book on top of that, and what the hell good is a book as a means of efficient and convenient information storage if you can't stack stuff on top of it?

The new PHB suffers from profusion of spherical settings, too, which annoys me as well. Sure, the old ones had some, but they were small and unobtrusive. But the things I miss the most are the metallic pointings, and the chain of the PHB/lock of the DMG. They were visually interesting attention draws that I could actually envision on an arcane tome.

Ah well. What I want to know is, when is WotC gonna offer deluxe editions of these things, complete with leather bound, brass-pointed-and-hinged, and glass-jewelled reproductions of the illustrations? :D
