Revising the "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen"

Deriastate

First Post
Who would you put in a modern League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Just saw the movie, I thought the concept was fantastic but the execution was a letdown. So, who would make up the League if it was formed today? Any nationality ok.

I'll slide this off to our off topic forum. If you'd rather have it in Sci-Fi, Deriastate, let me know!

And welcome to the boards. :)

Hmmm. The key qualifications would be: Needs to come from a fictional source, and must be well-known - all of the LoEG heroes were big-time literary figures, I believe. So no minor characters, they have to be fairly well known. I'd say no massively Sci-Fi or comic book characters, but others may disagree.

A couple candidates off the top of my head: Clarice Starling (from Silence of the Lambs), John McClane (from Die Hard), maybe the kid from The Shining (he'd be about 35-40 by now, and psychic). There needs to be the elderly hero type - Indiana Jones might be too old for that, as he'd have to be 90+ in 2003.

Jack Burton (Big Trouble in Little China) would make a cool character, though he'd kind of take up the same role John McCain would. I think I'd go with Jack, come to think of it, though he's much less well-known...

Even though he isn't literary...for some reason I think Indianna Jones would be a fun addition. :)

Well, the originals were literary only because there was no other form of fiction at the time (leaving aside theatrical pieces). For a modern day League, I think movies could be included.

I would definately include movies and even TV for that matter. Two that I would include are...

Buckaroo Banzai - just for the quirky factor
MacGyver - Way too crafty to be left out.

Henry "Indiana" Jones, Jr. was born July 1, 1899. By now, he'd be 104 yrs old. Maybe the drink from the Holy Grail had some life-preserving effects, or he's now the old codger who puts the team together?

Well, in that case:

- The guy from "The Dead Zone"
- Ron Perlman's Beast from the "Beauty and the Beast" TV series
- One of the New Bionics from the Six Million Dollar reunion movies (Steve and Jamie may be a bit long in the tooth)
- Practically any of Jackie Chan's "reluctant hero" characters
- The computer hacker kid from "The Core"
- Imhotep from "The Mummy/The Mummy Returns" (they'd figure out a way to get him back and make him obey, right?)
- Jinx from "Die Another Day" (requisite League female?)
