Revising the "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen"

I think I'll stick with literature, to keep in the theme of the older Leagues.

I'd think for a modern League...
James Bond as the aged head of the team
'Repairman Jack' from F. Paul Wilson's books for ingenuity and sheer rat-bastardness.
Hannibal Lector, so they can get an inside take on madmen.

I think that, for a 30's-40's style team, characters like Indiana Jones, the Shadow, the Phantom, the Rocketeer, & others would work well for a team in that era.

However, for a more "modern" team, perhaps these characters are all potential candidates:

* John McClane/Jack Burton (obvious reasons stated before)
* MacGyver
* Lara Croft (for a more "modern" equivalent of Indiana Jones--not sure how this'll work)
* James Bond (the character has sort of been made "timeless" due to the movies), or Jack Ryan
* LeStat (a famous "modern" vampire)
* Magnum, P.I.
* One of Jackie Chan's reluctant heroes (usually named Jackie).

Then again, some sci-fi/mystical elements wouldn't be totally uncalled for, so perhaps Arnold Schwartzenegger's character from "Predator" (or even a Predator itself) could be viable.

As for villains, there's always a fair share of foes from film. Whether it's a Predator on the loose, a evil plot from the forces of S.P.E.C.T.R.E., members of organized crime or a drug cartel, neo-Nazis, terrorists, or even something like the beast from "Jeepers Creepers," Hannibal Lector on the loose, an outbreak of Aliens (thus the presence of a Predator), or even a run-in with the current generation of Sawyers/Hewitts (ala the Texas Chainsaw Massacre) may be viable.

How about the Phantom, Flash Gordon, Mandrake the Magician, and Lothar? :)

A psychic. Lance Henriksen's Frank Black from Millennium, Ally Walker's Sam Waters from Profiler, someone like that.

Parker Stevenson's Austin James from Probe.

Johnny 5.

The Misfits of Science.

Piratecat.

Automan!

Heck, thinking about Jackie Chan made me almost forget the master - Bruce Lee! The character from Enter The Dragon would be in his 50's or so, but still a potentially dangerous person.

I like the idea of Magnum P.I.

Jack Ryan is almost too serious/real-worldish of a character for this.

We need more mystical/horror heroes. The original had Dr. Jeckyll and the Invisible Man, there need to be more along those lines, but there aren't any really similar characters from modern horror - all the bad guys are capital-E Evil, rather than shaded like the older ones.

I think I'd vote for John J Rambo over Dutch or John Matrix.

Kelly LeBrock's Lisa from Weird Science (not Vanessa Angel).

Blade!

Conor MacLeod.

Jack Baur
we need Jack Baur....definatly....

But, lets consider. The parts were, Old Adventurer, Invisible Man, Vampiress Female, The Beast and stuff like that right?

For Old Adventurer Indy or Mcguver work. Invisible Man? How bout the character from the latest incarnation of that movie. Instead of a Vampiress Female how about a VAmpire Hunter! Buffy! (or if you REALLY want a vampire just use angel!

For a Beast use the Hulk or a WWE wrestler...like Big show...

I'd say that Nero Wolfe would be the brains of the team, if he wasn't such an agoraphobic eccentric. :)

But Wolfe is the wrong time period, isn't he?

Now Detective Columbo, that would be fun...

And in keeping with the Columbo theme, it wouldn't matter who the villain was, he would be played by George Hamilton.
