Righteous Might

I still don't understand that thinking. My line of thinking is since it is a good spell evil things would not be allowed to harm you.
Nono, they're strong against each other. It's like Fire vs Cold. Why are Fire creatures weak to Cold? They're opposites.

That may be a particular issue with your campaign, then. Yes, it doesn't provide effective DR versus demons and devils (though the spell provides other benefits, as well)...but think about other higher-level threats that it *does* provide DR against. Elementals, dragons, golems, just to name a few.

Also, the DR is only part of the benefit of Righteous Might...it's not meant to solely (or even primarily) be a defensive spell.

Then my issue with the spell still stands. What are you more likely to be fighting at 9th level and beyond? My opinion is the Demons, devils and the like (certainly in our games). It just does not seem to be useful to cast a 5th level spell that has the ability (which has other useful abilities) to make you take less damage from everything but the true foes you are battling. Oh well.

That completely depends on the campaign. I had a guy with DR x/evil and it was not over come by fighting these natural evil thinsgs that much.

If you're specifically fighting evil foes like demons and devils, then Righteous Might may not be your best 5th level spell anyway...it may be Dispel Evil.

Think like this. Righteous Might is a spell which makes you like mighty celestials. Stronger, Bigger. Mighty celestials also have DR X/Evil. So you gain it.

I understand what they are trying to mimic with the DR, such as a cold creature being susceptible to fire (opposites), at this point. However, those are natural vulnerabilities. I just don't like that this is a beneficial spell that does it this way. I feel that a deity granting powers would give his followers a more beneficial protection.

Well, as was mentioned earlier, it's not a defensive spell. The intent is not to be Righteous Protection. Although that could be a cool spell for you to create.

It's not that I expect to be a protection spell. The ability is included in this spell and my feeling is that it should be more beneficial. I do understand now why it is the way it is (and actually should have been clearer to me in the first place). I just disagree with the way it was done. Thanks much!

Oh, there's also the ... I forget what it's called. I think it's a 4th level Druid spell in Frostburn. It gives you DR 15/- but makes you vulnerable to fire.

The deity grants his follower an aura of goodness that protects him from all attacks.

... except those that are so evil as to overcome the inherent goodness of the aura.
