Ring of Fire Resistance Cost?

Hello, everyone!

I'm new to 4e and the forums, so apologies if I'm posting this in the wrong section.

My DM recently decided to switch us from 3.5 to 4. I had a ring of 15 Fire Resistance in 3.5, and I'm trying to figure out how to determine the price of such an item in 4e. How would I go about doing this?

4e doesn't have an equivalent to this. There is a Flamedrinker Shield (Epic) that provides 15 Fire Resistance. Cost is a level 26 item (see your PHB for the gold cost).

There is a Primordial Ring, level 14 item, 1/day provides a resist 10 to any element for 1 encounter. There's a level 17 item, Stormcatcher Ring that grants a Resist 10 for thunder and lightning and @ level 19 a Bone Ring of Preservation - grants 15 necrotic resist... maybe equivalent to fire? Finally, there's the Ring of the Phoenix, which does provide 15 fire resist, but also provides a 1/day rebirth (hence the name) and so is level 27.

Hope that helps.

Does it have to be a Ring (Resistance is more a Armor thing) and what level are you?

A permanent Resistance 15 would be a Epic Tier Item (it's usually 5 for Heroic, 10 for Paragon and 15 for Epic).

Good point about the armor, level 22 armor of resistance +5 (grants 15 resist to any type of damage, must be chosen at time of creation)

Thanks everyone for the fast responses! I appreciate the confirmation that there is no equivalent item. I searched and searched and couldn't find anything.

The item doesn't have to be a ring. Honestly, I'm not trying to port the item to 4e because I've had to make some rather serious class modifications to get the concept to work (going from a sorcerer to a swordmage), so I'm essentially trying to figure out how much the item would be worth so that I can get other items of comparable value.

I'd recommend you determine your starting value of items by the standard rules (1 item level+1, one on your level, one level-1, and items adding to the value of a second level-1) if you're not attached to specific items.

What level will you be starting at?

I'll be starting at 16.

Monster damage compared to PC hit points is fairly low at that level, so you don't really need resist anything.

Also, 4e monsters are built completely differently than 3e monsters. You're never going to have a monster use a maximized empowered fireball on you for 90 fire damage. So, again, you don't really need to stock up on elemental resistances.

Of course, having resist is better than not having it, but it's no longer essential.

I would argue the only essential resistance is necrotic.

while true, I actually think resistances are a lot stronger in 4e because

1) Damage is lower
2) Ongoing damage is common.

My party has a lot of resistances and it shows. Ongoing damage barely affects anyone, and certain monsters are completely ineffective due to resistances.
