Ring of Spell Storing

First Post
I have a Ring of Spell Storing but I'm trying to decide what would be good to put into it, specifically Clerical spells. My char is a Sor -- any suggestions on what spells I can put it (levels 1-6, spells from any Wizards' source). Also, on a related question, are all spells that are cast into the ring cast out as a standard action?

Thanks.

Well since anyone can use the spells in the ring, It cant be Spell compleation and not Spell Trigger and probubly not Use activated.

That leaves Command word. So a standard action to cast one spell from the ring.

It takes a standard action or the casting time of the spell, whichever is longer.

As for spells, I'd suggest one of the standbys: heal and harm.

In general, the activation time of a magic item and the casting time of the spell are the same.

Therefore, using a wand of Identify really sucks.

But, to the question, sticking a Heal spell in the ring can be a huge life-saver quite often.

However, since you probably won't be far from the Cleric most of the time, a Flame Strike can also be pretty useful.

A ring of spell storing contains up to ten levels of spells that the wearer can cast. Each spell has a caster level equal to the minimum level needed to cast that spell. As with a wand (see the Wands section later in this chapter), the user need not provide any material components or focus, or pay an XP cost to cast the spell, and there is no arcane spell failure chance for wearing armor (since the ring user need not gesture)

I read this as saying you use it like a wand, that is :

Wands use the spell trigger activation method, so casting a spell from a wand is usually a standard action that doesn’t provoke attacks of opportunity. (If the spell being cast, however, has a longer casting time than 1 action, it takes that long to cast the spell from a wand.

That seem opretty straightforward to me.

The thing about Spell Trigger is that if you dont have the spell on your class spell list you cant cast it.

With the Ring, you can cast any spell stored in it no matter what class you are. So Command word it the one to use.

Heal is probably your best bet and a life saver. Harm is not very good for you, because you have to make a touch attack (which involves getting close). As a Sorcerer, you may want to get some spell you don't know in the ring as well. That depends entirely on your list.

Why did your DM change it?

Did he change it for Ioun Stone Vibrant purple?

That one stored 6 lvls of spells.

...so you have not poblems with a standard-action call lightning? (Normal casting time: 100 full-round actions)
