Ring of sustenance in something non-ring like ?

If I wanted to create a wonderous item that did the same thing as ring of sustenance but in say, a vest or helmet or necklace or whatever else instead of a ring, would the pricing be in the same ? (i guess thats, would that be a reasonable thing to do or are ring prices special ?)

A Clear Spindle Ioun Stone, which provides the sustenance but not the reduced need for sleep, costs 4,000 gp, but some of that is for ioun stones' effective slotlessness.

As a vest or helm, I'd cost it at 3,750 gp: The item's 2,500 gp base price, plus 50% for an uncustomary space limitation.

more uncustomary than a ring, or do rings not have that problem?
From the pricing magic items table:
"Uncustomary space limitation3 Multiply entire cost by 1.5 "

So making an item that customarily is assigned to one body slot costs more to create for another slot.

Rings have no slot restrictions, as the slot affinity applies only to wondrous items.
Rings follow the same pricing structure as slotted wondrous items, and can only be worn two at a time in specific places. When pricing new rings, or new wondrous items based upon existing rings, they should be treated as wondrous items whose accustomed slot is the 'rings' slot.

A slotted wondrous item based on an existing ring therefore uses an uncustomary slot and qualifies for the 1.5X cost multiplier.

That's not quite what it means. Footnote 3 (4 in the Hypertext SRD ) is "See Body Slot Affinities ".

Body Slot Affinities

Each location on the body, or body slot, has one or more affinities: a word or phrase that describes the general function or nature of magic items designed for that body slot. Body slot affinities are deliberately broad, abstract categorizations, because a hard-and-fast rule can’t cover the great variety among wondrous items.

You can use the affinities in the list below to guide your decisions on which magic items should be allowed in which body slots. And when you design your own magic items, the affinities give you some guidance for what form a particular item should take.

Some body slots have different affinities for different specific items.

Wondrous items that don’t match the affinity for a particular body slot should cost 50% more than wondrous items that match the affinity.
Code:
[B]Body Slot Affinity
[/B]
Headband, helmet Mental improvement, ranged attacks
Hat Interaction
Phylactery Morale, alignment
Eye lenses, goggles Vision
Cloak, cape, mantle Transformation, protection
Amulet, brooch, medallion,
necklace, periapt, scarab	Protection, discernment
Robe Multiple effects
Shirt Physical improvement
Vest, vestment Class ability improvement
Bracers Combat
Bracelets Allies
Gloves Quickness
Gauntlets Destructive power
Belt Physical improvement
Boots Movement
I'd say an item of sustenance would fit reasonably well as "protection" or "physical improvement" (cloak, amulet, shirt or belt).

I think Belt would fit well. It needs to be a tight belt, though. :)
:p

I'd say a necklace/choker is the best option, as the ring (and any non-modified item based on it) must be worn continuously for a week in order to work.

(One of my characters had a necklace of adaption and sustenance. No need for air, food or water.)
