About Wiz/Sor
And, yeah, you're right about the wiz/sorc being a suboptimal choice - he's not taken (or taking) too many levels of sorcerer, for just that reason.
I have never tried but... isn't it a good choice to be Wizard + 1 level of Sorcerer? Which benefits/penalties would you get?
+ you approximately double your 0th and 1st level spells
+ you can cast spontaneously approx half the amount of those
+ you can now cast spells of your banned school (maybe from items only? not sure...)
+ you become proficient in all simple weapons
+ you may learn 4+2 new low-level spells at once (unless you choose spells you already know as Wiz); you can trascribe them into your spellbook
+ you get an extra +2 Will ST instead of normal progress
- you delay your spellcasting progress by 1 level (your total progression becomes like a Sor's)
- you delay your next bonus feat by 1 level
- you don't get your 2 new high-level spells
- your caster level does not increase by 1
- your BAB progression is 1 level late
HP, feats, skills (except knowledges other that Arcana, but only if taken now) and Familiar abilities increase the same in any case.
Can you remember other +/-?
You would need anyway at least a medium-high charisma.
I think it's an interesting combination, what do you think? You'd be a Wizard who developed a little ability in spontaneous casting by neglecting his academic studies for a little while.
