Couldn't have said it better myself.Umbran said:Here's the thing I don't understand - I don't grok why folks think a hiatus is necessary for people to get their heads together. Sure, people who are currently working on productions of series need to focus their attention on what they are doing, but other people can get their heads screwed on straight and think about where the franchise should go while the thing is still running. It is called processing in parallel, and it works fine pretty much everywhere. Person A worries about the now, person B worries about the future.
I personally think the "viewers need a rest" argument is hooey. The viewers don't need a rest. They need solid characters and good writing. There aren't a whole lot of good genres TV shows out there right now. Give viewers something well crafted, and they'll watch it.
I don't subscribe to the viewers need a rest theory much, myself. But I do think the franchise needs a break and that would most likely mean no new projects for at least a year or 2 while the new production team gets things in order. A new TV show that goes back to basics would be fine by me. Can we advance time please about 50-100 years in the Trek universe and set it on the Entrerprise-F (or whatever designation would be around at that time). Let's get a new continuity instead of playing around in the "past."Umbran said:I personally think the "viewers need a rest" argument is hooey. The viewers don't need a rest. I can't agree with this. It came back once and has stayed around for some time. I can easily see it making another comeback if there is no exposure for X amount of time. Paramount has a cash cow and a built-in fanbase on their hands. If Trek dissappears for a while there is a very good chance it will pop up again.Whisperfoot said:Make no mistake about this, if Enterprise is cancelled and there isn't a new movie in the works, the franchise is dead. You will not see it again unless they reinvent the original like they did (very effectively, I might add) with Battlestar Galactica. I actually have my doubts that would ever happen. You think Trek sucks now, wait until it exists only in reruns. A major driving force of science fiction TV will have slipped into oblivion.
Have to agree, good characters and story matter. I feel the show, the movies are playing it safe in format and story. They should boldly go forth not be apart of the herd.Umbran said:Here's the thing I don't understand - I don't grok why folks think a hiatus is necessary for people to get their heads together.
