Ripping apart the ELH...

I thought in the DMG Eratta, they did away with the stacking levels thing for Assassin & Shadowdancer. Did they reinstate it while I wasn't looking?

I don't see that at all. Here's the relevant portion of the DMG errata:

p. 30 and 35, The Assassin’s and the Shadowdancer’s uncanny dodge ability should be identical to the rogue’s ability

It then lists the text of the rogue's Uncanny Dodge. The rule for stacking Uncanny Dodge, however, is in the PH (page 56) instead of the DMG - and it's not errated.

(Re my Idiots statement)

Kinda harsh don't ya think? No book is ever gonna be 100% error free. Its enevitable that there will be mistakes, typos, etc. The bigger the book, the more likely something will get by. People are human and things like that happen. Though, I do agree that there were several mistakes in the PHB (1st printing) that should've probably been caught and killed before print.

I don't want to hijack this thread into a Death to Typos rant, but I 100% disagree. I don't think that it's *in*evitable :P that there will be mistakes and typos that are *that* obvious. Text-to-tables QC is not rocket science. "Deity" instead of "Character" is a huge mistake that was easy to see, and they missed it. Characters getting abilities at different levels in text and tables should be easy to see, and they missed it.

There are people you can hire to check these kinds of things. Anal-retentive folk. Maybe those are the people that got booted at WoTC recently, I dunno.

Misplaced periods, incorrect or inconsistent spacing, sure. Those will slip by. Misspellings or missing words or obviously incorrect words that a casual reader notices the first time he picks up the book . . . those shouldn't be forgiven so casually.

I'll renew my offer to WoTC or the independent publishers to QC their work before it hits the final, final press, for nothing but a little free product :).

I don't have the book in front of me, and I'm not sure it's an error, but I noticed that the Perfect Wight has skill requirements at about 24 ranks, meaning that the class would be available after 21st level... but the feat required has a skill rank requirement of 30, making it so one would need to be 27th level before taking the class. I don't know whether it was really intentional, but it sure looks like someone set the class up to be available after 21st level and then tossed in a feat requirement without considering how it would affect the minimum character level to take the class... I didn't get a chance to check any of the other prestige classes for a similar problem.

In the Weapon Special Abilities section, the text for Unholy power is the same as the text for Holy power at least as far as who can wield it...

Updated list

Format Errors:
Page 176, Demilich: A paragraph is repeated in the description.
Page 196: Haganemnon: Alignment should read “Always chaotic neutral” or similar.
Page 211, Shadow of the Void: The creature’s subtype should read (Cold, Incorporeal) instead of (Incorporeal, Cold).

Rules Errors:
Page 14, Epic Ranger: The table doesn’t match the text: favored enemy once per 3 levels or 5 levels?
Page 18, Assassin: Uncanny Dodge doesn’t appear to stack with Uncanny Dodge as it did before.
Page 20, Dwarven Defender: Defensive Awareness doesn’t appear to stack with Uncanny Dodge as it did before.
Page 28, Divine Emissary: the text conflicts itself: divine inspiration 1/day at 1st level and +1/day at every third level, but the text lists 11th level as one of these levels; the table supports every third level over 11th level. The table doesn’t match the text: bonus feat at 5th level (text) or 6th level (table)?
Page 29, Epic Infiltrator: The text conflicts itself: sneak attack at 1st level and each additional 3, or on levels {1, 5, 8, 11, …}?
Page 29, Epic Infiltrator: Class requirements don’t include epic feat requirements.
Page 30, Guardian Paramount: Class requirements don’t include epic feat requirements.
Page 34, Perfect Wight: Class requirements don’t include epic feat requirements.
Page 36, Union Sentinel: The table doesn’t match the text: portal guardian 1/day or 2/day at 10th level?
Page 58, Improved Ki Strike: This feat is strictly worse than Penetrate Damage Reduction.
Pages 58-59, Improved Manyshot: This feat has no apparent benefit over Manyshot, as the number of attacks is capped at 4 with either feat.
Page 59, Spell Slots above 9th level: Change “The number of spell slots available to a deity” to “The number of spell slots available to a character”
Pages 59-60, Improved Spell Capacity: The use of a spell requires a spellcasting attribute of 10 + level, but Improved Spell Capacity states that the use of a spell slot requires a spellcasting attribute of 10 + level.
Page 65, Planar Turning: Last sentence should read “If you can rebuke undead, you rebuke (or command) all evil outsiders and turn (or destroy) all nonevil outsiders.”
Page 133, Unholy Power: Weapons of unholy power should bestow negative levels on good creatures, not evil creatures.
Page 174, Mithral Golem: The mithral golem requires polymorph any object to convert the iron into mithral, which is beyond the limits of the spell. Furthermore, the value of the mithral golem’s body is 8,500,000 gp, about 100 times the treasure of a standard EL 21 encounter – and roughly 8 times the total wealth of a 21st level character!
Page 174, Adamantine Golem: The adamantine golem requires polymorph any object to convert the iron into adamantine, which is beyond the limits of the spell. Furthermore, the value of the adamantine golem’s body is far beyond the expected treasure of an EL 25 encounter.
Page 254, Union Sentinel: The touch AC and heavy mace damage are incorrect (touch AC 18 (+5 deflection, +3 Dex [Dex 18, limited by an adamantine breastplate]), heavy mace 1d8+13 (+5 Str + 2 Weapon Specialization +4 Epic Weapon Specialization + 2 enhancement).

Ah, I am not sure which prestige class it is but one has a requirement of

+23 BAB

This is an impossibility by the rules. As your BAB never goes up after 20th level. You do however gain +1 epic bonus to your attacks every other level. This doesn't however increase your BAB.

The books says that BAB and Epic Level bonuis to attack stack for prerequites. So, this is not an error, just confusing.

Errors are very common in large texts. Its happened for centuries. So much, that there is a Patron demon of Scribes. His name is Titivillus. To find simple typo errors and misplaced words isn't unusual even when your life is on the line.

After the invention of the printing press, he really had a field day. In 1561, _Anatomy of the Mass_, a 172 page document, had 15 pages of errata. The monk who edited it said the enormous number of errors said the devil caused the printer to make the mistakes after somehow getting the manuscript soaked in a kennel. (I don't even want to know how that happened.) However, that was a mere pittance. His masterpiece was a printing of the Vulgate Bible ordered by Pope Sixtus V. The pope issued a papal bull automatically excommunicating any printer who altered the text, and he inspected each sheet as it came off the press.

However, the finished product was so bad that corrections had to be printed, cut out, and pasted over mistakes in every single copy. Sixtus V had to have all the copies returned and destroyed, but according to my book, "at least one, though, reportedly has been preserved as a testament to Titivillus' handiwork."

So, for anyone that says, "Couldn't they see the simple error on page xxx!" Well, probably not after staring at it for a few hundred hours.
