Rise of the Miniatures Handbook?

Kunimatyu

First Post
So far, we've got at least three creatures confirmed from the Minis Handbook in the 4e MM -- the magma hurler(confirmed from the planes preview), the kruthik(confirmed from the monster podcast), and the gravehound (now the gravehound zombie).

This doesn't surprise me very much, as many of the MH creatures were designed to do one thing and do it well, and as such they'll fit very well as linked pieces of a larger 4e encounter. Abilities are a little cooler this time around -- the gravehound doesn't just stun on a bite attack, it causes continuous damage and has a death grip.

I'm hoping that two more of the MH monsters, the Mad Slashder and Nothic, make the 4e MM. Both are aberrations -- the Mad Slasher is a spider-like aberration with Whirlwind Attack, and the Nothic has nasty claws and a flesh-rotting gaze attack. With a little design work, I think they could be exceptional 4e monsters.

Does anyone else have Minis Handbook favorites that they'd like to see in the 4e MM?

The Kruthik seem ok, their inspiration is pretty obvious though. I wonder if they will look less like Tyranids in the 4E art.

I hope the Abyssal Maw gets to have it's mouth be a gateway to some really unpleasant place.

I think the cave dinosaurs are a good idea. Awesome mounts and a great excuse to use the smaller plastic toy dinos.

I never have been one for miniatures in a RPG, but the Miniature handbook is actually on my list of books to get.
I think 4e could benfit from not having a emphasis on miniature combat. If you want alot of tactical complication out of the game, get rid of the minis

Hmm I wonder if we are seeing a blurring of the line bewteen the minis game and the RPG? Imagine if someday your character sheet will be the size of a collectable card. It could fit in my wallet for easy storage. Neat!

It would, in Basic D&D. I don't think that's a blurring... it's equally possible to devise mini stat rules that take up three pages.

As a minor aside, Whizbang is right, Mini's Handbook D&D pages were supreme. But as for the book, only the monsters remain. The classes, spells and magic items have nearly all bee since reproduced in other sourcebooks (for good reason, they work really well).

I liked some of those, but LAST on that list would be the nothic. No-one in our group thought anything of it at all. maybe a good mini creature with one special ability or whatever, but we all got copies of the mini and no one would swap it. Horrid and I hope to never see time given to it in dnd book.

Hmm, of those I liked. I loved the ramadeen (would love a mini for it anyway, as we have a race on our world that look just like it. As far as seeing 4e stats, I cannot remember all the creatures, but ramadeen again would be good, catfolk, hmm can't remember too many more other than aspects.

Well, plus the healer and the prestige classes. The bonded summoner seemed like it should made the leap to Complete Mage, but CM wasn't that sort of book, it turned out.

Several new Plane of Shadow creatures, the Walking Wall, yet another take on Aliens (which we already know will be in 4E), some pretty nasty horse guys, cave dinosaurs, etc.

Honestly, if only the aspects made it to 4E, I'd be a happy camper. What a great concoction they were.
