Rogue Junk...

The creator of the Invisible Blade PrC from Complete Warrior gave some unofficial errata to the prerequisites (since the class was significantly changed from its original version). You can find them here. If your DM is cool with it, the class is much more viable, and a lot better for a combat rogue.

Also, if you need to play a cleric, then consider the Shadowbane Stalker from Complete Adventurer. It keeps a good mix of rogue and cleric abilities, without sacrificing either completely.

Actually, the creator of the Invisible Blade class has a full 10 level version of his prestige class, located on his personal website, The Waking Lands.

Hrm. I thought the title of this thread was a clumsy attempt to thwart language filters in order to have a discussion about runaway naughty bits. Of course, I clicked on it, so what does that say about me? .. L_Lb

OOoooo. I really like that Invis blade class. I'll talk it over with the DM.

Is there by chance some way to add a weapon to the list of items (I've already spec'd into rapier), or maybe another class similar using them (or even just other suggestions, I love having multiple choices).

Thanks

Greetings,
I'm not sure to put this here or what, so please move if necessary...

Well, my first attempt at a rogue isn't going as well as I would've liked. I was going for a nice, skillful rogue specializing in diplomacy, interrigator via bullyism, and down right clepto. However, due to the party's intelligence, or lack of I should say, it seems that idea is out the window. Basically I'm going to have to hold my own without the help of our cleric, as well as having to create my own opportunities for combat with our lack of strategy tanks.

So here's my comcern:
- Are there any PrC that are good for combat rogue, perferably other than assassin due that's the only thing our rogues have ever been....
- What is the best strategy vs undead for rogue: run away knowing there's basically not anything major he can do, or take hits like the fighter "should" be doing (keep in mind, the cleric we have is a complete moron and would rather summon 2 huge centipedes instead of break off some healing when the 2 front line guys are < 10 hps very early in the fight).

I think there are some rogue prestige classes for fighting undead, I think I read about them in reviews of AEG's undead, and some WotC products, skullhunter clan or some such but I'm not sure about the exact books.

In general though rogue's massive sneak attack is great in combat and not really improved by most prcs. Go with either two weapon flanking style for multiple sneaks with weapon finesse to improve your attacks or get some method to allow you to deny their dex and go 30' sniping with a bow or sling.

The weaknesses are the low AC and hit points and the variety of things immune to crits (undead, constructs, oozes, things you'd expect in a dungeon in other words).

Another tactic is boost use magic device and get a wand that is useful against undead, such as fireball (for most corporeals) or magic missiles (for incorps).

Sounds like you need to cut the throats of the morons you're with and start over.

There is no good strategy against uncrittable creatures, unless you can get the GM to let you learn/earn one of the special feats that let you crit uncrittable creatures. That's what clerics and fighters are for.

Multiclass into a class that will give you access to spells which will allow critting the uncrittable, I think that there are spells to do this for constructs, and I know that there are spells to allow this for undead (a divine one)

Then again, there's always the cheap, temporary option of getting your cleric to bless a few bottles of water for you next time you take a long break in-game. Almost free (assuming your DM is as nice as mine is about "reasonable material components". The amount of silver they have to use to purify a bottle of water could kill tons of undead on its own. That's what the actual blessing is supposed to be for.) and as good as acid or anything like that. Buying some oil and a torch is also a good alternative to the Alchemist's Fire idea. Oil is much cheaper, and you shouldn't have too much trouble getting your hands on a little fire during a fight. (lacking a torch, look around your fighting environment. There's always a brazier or something inthe dark places. Or you could pour some oil on a club and use THAT as a torch)

Then again, that's just my character. I love to bodge together good weapons out of seemingly random crap and throw everything from the environment at my enemies. (Improvised Weapon Proficiency is fun! I think the best one I've ever used was a Lich's Phylactery. Didn't know that's what it was at the time, but it sure hurt like hell when it hit.)

Nice, I like that fire idea. Kinda like 'ol Magiver (sp). "Hmm, a toothbrush, duct tape, and a pack of cigs... Sweet, I can make c-4!" *snicker* But, about those spells... I see many people mentioning them (sneak attack vs things not normally able), but I can't find any in my books. Anyone mind helpin me out w/ a reference of some type (and/or just the spell name and stats)

There is a PrC in the miniture's handbook which is a rogue undead hunter. Quite nice actually. I think you need one level of cleric first and will need a fair number of ranks in "knowledge religion" so it may not work well from where you are.

It does let you ALWAYS use your backstab against undead (even without flanking etc.). Really quite handy in an undead-rich setting.
