[RPG] Creating Monsters!

Yeah, the bots have a Bot Advance Option, at the bottom, its currently set to no, so you should be able to create bots that can advance.

You should also edit anything with rage over 100% down to 100% since it makes no difference (its all burnt in the first rage attack).

NPCs seem like a pretty interesting idea. I'm not sure how it would pan out once someone tries to powerlevel on one.

Also, what are your plans for summons? Add all the bots, or create a bunch of unique creatures?

I believe the Troll reward should be 196 GP.

Yeah, healing is currently a bit too expensive (I think), when I fight a troll it takes off about 300 HP, IF I win, which costs 600 GP to heal, it's basically insane at the moment not to stomp on the most expensive monster you can 1 hit kill rather than moving on.

The Necromancer is the new bot. He's weak (1st level), but he can gain XP and levels. We'll see how he works out!

At present, there's no difference between summons. Eventually, apparently, summons will vary in strength according to their MP cost. When that happens, I'll add all the bots as available summons.

Say... what?

At present there is no difference between summons... because we only have the Wraith. Got that. Eventually, (word that confuses me) apparently, summons wil vary in strength according to their MP cost.

Now, the word Apparently implies that the game does this, and not you. So does that mean using a lot of summons will modify your summon? Or am I just getting lost in your English English (like the word Defence? Man... we call it Defense around here).

Edit: Oh... you can't edit MP costs with the current setup, but you can at a later date? Is that it?

I just tried out a fight against the necromancer, it seems bots don't use the same rules as players do, if a player makes a move in the round they die they gain exp and lose/gain rage appropriately, but bots remain fixed at the value they had at the start of the round, this means that if someone one hit kills the necromancer it gets no XP.

You lost me. I was talking about v2 of the system (we're on v1.0). We'll upgrade when it appears.

Problem is, the developer is a 16 year old kid, and when you ask him what is planned for the system or when it will be, he just says "You'll have to wait and see" - expecting you to get all excited like.. well, like a 16 year old kid (no offence to any 16 year olds here!). As far as I'm concerned, that makes him the Worst. Salesman. Ever., and, being unable to get excited about something I know nothing about, am inclined to look into us just hacking this system ourselves and forgetting about his plans for development.

The only thing holding me back is that he is apparently including a "Story" mode, which actually allows you to play text-based adventures with your character. Sounds like it might be useful, but since he won't divulge what he's doing, I have no idea whether it's something worth waiting for (or how long we'd have to wait).

I'm assuming the above post was addressed to me, if not ignore the example below.

Lets say that I have 85% Exp and 100% rage going into a battle. If I rage in the first round and I am then killed by the monster in the same round, my rage is correctly set to 0% and I gain 1d5% Experience.

However if a monster bot is called into battle with me and has 85% Exp and 100% rage and rages on the first round of battle and I one hit kill it in the same round, it does not lose any rage , nor does it gain Exp. This is probably because the bot always goes last and it probably dies before its move comes up, it means 1 hit killing NPCs will never level them up though.

How about now?

Better than I was at 16. I won't talk down about some of the problems in the mechanics, but if we REALLY want to work on this thing, I think we could use a better mechanic for damage/defense than Rand*Str - Rand*Def. I like my game to have as much randomness as the next guy, but it makes judgements very difficult to make.

Edit: Like Kalanyr 1 hit killing me at full HP, which has somewhere around a 5-10% chance of happening. Total killjoy.
