RPG Print News – Free League, Chaosium, and More

A starter set is here for one of my favorite RPGs, The One Ring. Dungeons & Dragons and adjacent RPGs have new adventures and new monsters. Call of Cthulhu has chaotic Keeper tips and advice. G.I. JOE is now in RPG form and they remain real American heroes. Finally, a new world set on Earth with a history quite different from our own debuts with a core rulebook complete with setting. This is a good week. I think that the APEX predator, attacktopus, camelpede, and elephant crossbreeds like the armadillaphant and octophant could all find a place in Middle-earth.

Keeper Tips by Chaosium
  • SYSTEM: Call of Cthulhu
  • PRODUCT TYPE: 128-page hardcover of GM advice
  • RETAIL PRICE: $17.99
  • DESCRIPTION: A gathering of wisdom, advice, and tips from Keepers for Keepers. Aimed at anyone - whether veteran or novice - who plays CoC, but is particularly aimed at those who undertake to run, referee, and potentially craft their own scenarios. The advice stems from a diverse range of people, some who have been running the game since its birth, and others who are newer to the game. All have presented what they consider to be their most useful and insightful advice. Some of the tips are contradictory. Some repeat or reinforce advice. You may agree or disagree with some things. That's okay. Just ignore the stuff that doesn't appeal. Consider the advice and turn it into something useful for you. This is from Chaosium after all, not a company called Lawium.

G.I. Joe is still a huge franchise. The toys have been in continuous production since the glory days of the early 80s. Comic book series have been produced for nearly as long. This game seems to focus on that 80s nostalgia, but the franchise never died or slept.
No they haven’t. They just rereleased the line with the new Snake Eyes movie and the vintage and classified line after letting it sit since the last GI Joe movie.

There was maybe a 4 year gap prior to 2020, but aside from a few small gaps here and there, the toys were around since the early 80s.

The RPG was announced awhile ago along with the Transformers RPG.

I think it was more like 7 years but yeah Hasbro keeps trying to revive it and the Classified series seems to be the best effort so far as kids just aren’t biting.
