[RPG] Strategy tips?

Okay, there's got to be more to strategy in this game than choosing attack options at random.

Can I get some tips? It seems like I get whupped half the time, and get off easy the other half of the time.

I'm still figuring things out, like which moves are best and so on. IME Low Blow is particularly hard hitting, as is Roundhouse Kick. Power Attack either does stacks of damage for me or none. Flurry of Blows seems to do very low damage. I don't tend to use magic attacks, so not too sure about them!

More help would be appreciated here too!

I've found little differences between the names. I tend to favor Low Blow, Power Attack, & Cleave, but that's just me. I haven't seen any consistantly better attack over others. I'm pretty sure the different names are just flavor.

The code calculates the random number after the attack is selected (heh) the only difference is if an attack is a spell (potential extra damage = mana cost), rage (you're base damage is at least half your Attack), overdrive (drops defence more than normal (this may have been eradicated when Morrus made defence equal hard to tell since if it fails you tend to be dead any way.) or physical (nothing special).

Are you sure about that spell thing? I read the code some time ago, and it's an uncommented mess but it seemed to me that spell damage was copied&pasted from standard damage. I've tried using magic a lot, but it doesn't seem to do more damage.

Even though my max mana is over 250, I still value Finger of Death over Meteor Storm. Meteor Storm rarely seems to do much damage, but Finger of Death knocks Ogres on their tuckus.

Even a lowly Fireball seems to do more damage than the Meteor Storm...

Is there something wrong with the spell damage calculation?

The extra damage was added in after Morrus showed us the initial code (it was some patch he installed). Nope spell damage calculation on Meteor Swarm works fine for me, you may just be unlucky.

You know what would be really cool? If, in the Temple, you could just specify how much you're willing to spend on healing MP and HP, and it would just do it...

This whole "buy 3 potions, heal, repeat" thing is getting tired. :( I'd hate to think about the guys who are up in the 40s level, what with all the healing.

Unless I'm just too underequipped to take on a Troll?

Of course, if someone hadn't logged off in the middle of a battle with the Ogre, that wouldn't be a problem...

Grrrr... It's been four hours...

I think most of us just keep 3 Heal potions on hand and heal up midbattle, then replenish our stock after the battle.

It's rare, but I do occasionally have to heal up more after a battle. Usually the three heal potions is enough, though.

Does the extra damage from magic apply to spells cast by monsters, too? I keep getting FoD'ed by dragons and taking zero damage.
