RPGenesis-- What are you looking for in a character generator?

Looks great from what I've seen. The main thing I look for in any character generation is the ability to add my own info be it different races, feats, or equiptment. I use a lot of wierd stuff from other publishers books.

Okay. You're in luck. One of my main concerns when starting this project (RPGenesis is a sub-project of my main project) was the vast amount of material available from publishers.

The application uses source material stored in XML formatted data. I am creating a seperate CMS (content management system) so that you can create your own source files for equipment and magic items from various sources and exchange them with other players. You will then have the option to include those files during character creation. Does that sound cool to you?

Excellent. I was just going to ask about this, as I would like to incorporate 'house rules' or other changes as I see fit to the info available, such as different campaign settings.

As far as looking at stats, I like the stat blocks as much as other formats, just as long as I can find the same thing in the same place quickly (i.e. BAB is in the same place for the 3 different critters attacking the PCs). Right now I keep a vertical spreadsheet with everything vital on it, similar to the MM layouts, and it keeps the BAB, AC, feats, etc. all lined up nicely.

For organization, having toggles where you can find the best Str NPC in a flash would be nice as well, instead of having to keep scanning to find the best one. I hope you understand what I am saying there...

And I will be happy to use what you have as a 'tester' if you wish, as I am always looking for ways to make things better, well, for me.

Thanks again Mr. Pez Agent

LOL, well, if only I had eight hands, four work stations, and didn't have to sleep or take a "real" job... ;)

The code will eventually be OpenSource so it will be available to developers who wish to help out. Right now I'm still ironing out the code and stuff which takes a bit of time... like if this was a car I was trying to hotrod and you came into my garage right now... well, you get the picture. It's not that messy, but let's just say I've got scotch tape in some places to keep things held together. :P

But I'll keep the updates rolling in this thread. I think the main priority for me is to make sure users can do at least "one thing" with it so as it evolves people can keep using it, if you know what I mean.

Regards,

/johnny :)

List View Updated...

Hello,

Man, is it Sunday already? I've been working on some more of the presentation layer, here's the latest screenshot. I was thinking that I would like to include XP in the list, as well as the Campaign the character is playing in (if any). I've gotten feedback for NPCs, but what about PCs? What sort of things do people need to see in a "general" list view such as this?

/johnny :)
