RS1-Stolen University (Salix Judging)

Mr Jones looks on in horror as Zenji blasts Dr Archville with his staff, but when the red light appears to wash over of scientist with no effect the magician calms down a little.

"Zenji, Zenji, relax." He implores. "Fighting each other will achieve nothing. We were sent to investigate, not to take anyone out. We should make sure we have all relevant information before doing anything we will regret later."

Bluff +12 (Because Jones's statement of the mission is not entirely true. )

"The assignment is straight-forward: find a way to bypass the force field, figure out what this 'Minister of Education' plans to do and stop him. The Vigilant will depart in three hours. Questions?"

Readied action - If Zenji points his staff at Jones - Switch array and Nullify rank 8 all powers - Try and convince Zenji to forget that any of his collective devices have any powers. They are just antiques. (This may well just wiff as it hits Zenji's cowl :<) (But at least it is perception so I have not wasted a load of 20s on infighting and hitting an impervious effect.)

Don't switch the array away from Mind Shield, unless Zenji points the staff.

Jones V's Zenji is not a battle I would relish. I think Zenji has a certain victory what with that cowl and all. A successful mind swap putting all those devices in Jones's hands would be amusing, although not very likely.) Damn infighting, we're the good guys, we don't fight each other. :>[/sblock]

OOC: Bah! Good guys fighting over misunderstandings is a staple of comics! ;)

And you guys are all awesome :)

Archeville's gaze shifts to Zenji when the beam hits him, a look of pure hatred at the magic energies striking and permeating him, but he quickly re-composes himself and turns back to the Minister, or, rather, the large "Centurion" between them. "You Rebecca's condition is zhat of being a Metahuman. Her powers are such zhat zhey may end her life in less zhan two decades... perhaps far, far less. Rebecca's age is reversing, she currently looks to be no older zhan sixteen, und zhere's a fair chance Rebecca vill regress to a pre-embryonic state of non-being if no vay is found to halt it."

"Herr Doctor Sinclair," Archeville continues, hoping that using the Minister's real name, and that of his daughter, might serve as another prybar into his psyche, "you can help save your Rebecca, but zhe best vay to do so is to vork vith us. You are highly intelligent, no doubt, and I'm certain zhe data you've found on zhe Metahuman condition is groundbreaking, but two minds can work better zhan one. If you release all zhese people, und come mit us, I svear to you I vill help you find a vay to save your Rebecca. Und by vorking vith us, vorking vithin "zhe System," it vould go a long vay towards getting zhat restraining order lifted. Saving Rebecca's very existence und being able to see her on your terms, not zhose of her mother... und all ve ask is zhat you let zhese people go, und come mit us."

As the German scientist describes Major Sinclair Mr Jones finds his mind returning to the team's initial briefing. If their controller was really the minister's daughter and had chosen not to reveal that fact what else had she kept secret. What did they know for sure about the young woman and her condition? Not a lot it seemed.

[Sblock=actions]Sense Motive - Any indication that Major Rebecca Sinclair was not who she said she was. (1d20+8=14)

(I am tempted to spend a hero point to re-roll that, although stunting enhanced sense motive is almost certainly better)

Oh star, I am slow to catch on. But we only have her word for it that she is actually a Major in the US army with age regression, and not a sixteen year old with a uniform and an enhanced bluff score. (And the remark about age regression was a throw away line on her part.) I am suddenly somewhat suspicious that all is not what it seems.

[sblock=ooc]I know hero infighting is a staple, no pretty strip to demonstrate that fact though :<. And now Jones is seriously considering teleporting off to try some mind reading on the mission controller, paranoid or what?[/sblock][/sblock]

OOC: Archeville's hoping it wasn't just a throw away line, and that she was being honest & forthright ;) And the strips linked aren't for heroes fighting heroes, it's re: Archeville's pseudo-psychological tactics.

Honest and forthright, she had to atleast recognise his voice on the tape recording.

Dr A is going to look mighty silly when the Ministers says "What are you talking about her sixteenth birthday was only last month."

I realised about the strips, and they added to my enjoyment. I was just being semi-ironic, you found a quote to support the quasi-psycology but not to support the claim that infighting is a genre staple. (Which I do not dispute.) It was ment as a kind of compliment that you had bothered to find any quotes at all.[/sblock]

OOC: Yeah, that's another big reason Archeville hopes things are what he thinks they are/what he sees them as/what I'm guessing they are ;) Hoping the "jaunt in prison" was longer than a month, hoping much longer, by some years.

The only reason I saw my daughter on her sixteenth birthday was by her insistance; the poor dear knew nothing of the arrangement, or why I HAD spent a jaunt prison for violating a Restraining Order.

I read the "jaunt in prision" as before the famed birthday party, for violating a previous restraining order, maybe when she was 10.

Sorry for so many posts, the suspence is killing me :>[/sblock]

Jones can feel the psychic pressure lift from the room, and Zenji's cowl no longer ebbs with active protection. "Again, Vicktor. You shouldn't presume. While your offer is intreging, I will have to decline. The Resolution under which the Task Force was formed has clear outlines about what will be done with me. It seems like perhaps a third decade will pass before I see her again. Vicktor I sincerley hope that your theory is incorrect.

"If you gentlemen would permit, I will take my leave and you can chalk up your 'mission' as a success. The forcefield generator is located in the Computer Science and Engineering Building, basement level room 105. I'm sure the three of you can deduce how to deactivate it. Give me twenty minutes to gather up those in my employ and you will meet no resistence."

Zenji once more turns his staff against the Minister.

"What? No! No way! You may have fooled them, but I'm not letting you get off scot-free! You've committed crimes, endangered hundreds of innocent people, and created a state of panic in the surrounding area! And that's not even beginning touch on all the moral and ethical violations in your twisted experiments! If, as you believe, you're truly in the right, then the courts will see you vindicated, but we have a mandate to bring you in to justice and that is what we shall do! I offer you this last chance to surrender and come peacefully, and I warn you that even if you overcome us there is an entire army waiting outside of this force field! There will be no escape! Archeville, Jones, if you don't snap out of whatever trance he's put you in and come to your senses then I'm afraid I'll have to incapacitate the two of you as well until you can be properly restrained and given medical or psychological attention as appropriate!"

Finally, turning on his communicator, Zenji sends a message to the cavalry. "This is the Arcane Antiquarian. We have found and confronted the minister. I have reason to believe that Dr. Archeville and Mr. Jones have been compromised by some sort of mind control and am requesting backup ASAP. The shield generator is in the computer science building."
