Rule expert help with monkey grip

Thanks rialla and others for help with interpreting this, so as I understand it he could wield a large waraxe in his primary for 1d12 damage, same damage and very much the same weight as a great ax in my opinion.

and could wield a medium waraxe in his off hand treated as a light weapon.

This is monkey grip from the complete warrior by the way.

Seems kind of wierd he can use such a large ax in one hand about the weight of a 2 handed great axe but couldnt in the other hand. What if he was ambidextrous? I know that 3.5 doesnt have it, its grouped with two weapon but still he could be ambidextrous and thus his off hand is the same as his primary. Monkey grip seems a bit broken, any thought s about maybe making a strength prerequisite?

Correction, It would appear the off hand weapon would have to be a large light weapon, for him to treat it as a light weapon. Like a large hand ax for example, d8 damage. Again about the size and weight of a dwarven war axe which being exotic does d10.

No, it would have to be Medium light weapon, because Monkey Grip doesn't work on the off-hand.

Whether you're ambidextrous or not, when you're attacking with two weapons, one hand is the off-hand... and Monkey Grip doesn't apply to that one.

If you decide you don't have an off-hand, then you can't use Two-Weapon Fighting, becuse it relies on having a second weapon 'in your off-hand'.
